Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Of Ships and The Sea

In one of their twitch casts (Mearls in Happy Fun Hour I think), he mentioned that Artificer got delayed because of some issues that came up in their internal playtesting. He didn't project a date but they are definitely working on it behind the scenes. AD

Spelljammer …Wait till you see Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage (Spelljammer?)

It's probably worth mentioning that in the last 'Happy Fun Hour' someone asked Mearls about whether the subtle Spelljammer references meant something. And he responded by saying something like (not exact quote!) "Subtle? I don't think the references are subtle at all!". Now, he did NOT then say...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Nathan Stewart Teases New D&D Setting Book in 2019

Yeah. Having finally watched the segment, I wouldn't put too much stock in the nuance of his phrasing. Seemed to me he was struggling to get the words out for what he wanted to say and that phrase came out. It definitely wasn't a prepared statement. AD

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragon Heist Chapter 3 Fireball

I might be misremembering, but isn't there an NPC who will visit Trollskull Manor after the attack even if the heroes don't start investigating on their own? I recall thinking it was a backstop prod to get them on track. Don't have the book with me, so I'd have to double check this evening. AD

Mike Mearls: so here’s the first part of my two-weapon fighting house rule

Mearls actually updated it today to something simpler: https://twitter.com/mikemearls/status/1055927779336761344 "Few people asked, latest version of two weapon fighting: * Does not use bonus action, off-hand gets full damage bonus * Choose one of the following when you attack: 1. Get one...

But wait-- what you desire exists! It's the Platinum Box from Beadle and Grimm for Dragon Heist. And you can get it for only . . . Oh. Right. Nevermind. AD

Updated errata will be released within the next month!

So, I got around to listening to the &Beyond twitch show with Jeremy Crawford as the guest (It's the one the DDB team-- Adam Bradford and Todd Kenrick-- do weekly). At the very end, they begin discussing the errata. Jeremy is about to explain how the errata affect the ranger . . . And Bradford...

    Sell me on D&D Beyond

Yeah. The app is still in beta. Next iteration will add what they call 'listings'-- the rules, monster, spell, class etc. lookups. After that, they'll add the character sheets. I do wish the description in the Google Play Store would mention that it's in beta. But maybe there is a policy in the...

Updated errata will be released within the next month!

I don't think you are wrong. I don't expect anything too major. But it is why there is more interest than usual. AD

Updated errata will be released within the next month!

Typically, I think this is the case. The reason folk are wondering this time is that Jeremy mentioned in one of their twitch shows that he had recently approved errata that had some bearing on ranger issues. This led to a lot of speculation about what that might be. AD

    Sell me on D&D Beyond

I honestly don't know when it was implemented. I just noticed it one day and thought 'hey that's useful'. For both our sakes, let's just say it was recently implemented. I don't think there's a way to search within the book you are looking at on the website. You can filter by source when...

    Sell me on D&D Beyond

Actually, once you do a global search, you can filter the results by category by clicking on the big buttons (monster, character, compendium, etc.). It's not a fine tuned filter but it's pretty good for getting where you want. AD

    Sell me on D&D Beyond

Couple of things here: 1) As someone else pointed out, you can just buy the war domain for a couple bucks. And that cost will be deducted against the total price of the book for you if you ever decide you want to buy the whole thing. (In other words, you'll never pay more than the full price of...

    Mearls On D&D's Design Premises/Goals

All I know, after reading this discussion, is that I'm now hungry for donuts and bagels. And there's not a bakery for at least 40 miles from my current location. So, eh, you are all terrible people who should be ashamed of yourselves. AD

Tell Me About Your Experiences With High Level 5E

Currently running a campaign where the PCs are 19th level. Started at 1. It has been extremely fun and easy to run. The best part has been going gonzo on them with using various high level creatures from several books. Lately they've been having to tangle with multiple demon lords. Here's my...

    Revised Ranger update

I very much doubt they are doing nothing. I suspect they are doing an awful lot. They just aren't doing the things that you would like them to be doing in the order that you would like them to be doing it. Completely understandable for you to complain about that. But-- while I'm quite...

    Revised Ranger update

Mearls (and I think Crawford) have said they will be conducting another survey this year (I'm guessing in the fall). They are waiting until they have the results of that survey in hand before they move forward. AD

Here's What's In That $500 Beadle & Grimm Platinum Edition of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

Yeah. I think success has a different bar to cross here. They are only making 1000 of them. Only a fraction of a fraction of the market needs to be interested. I mean, that's good, because at $500 only a fraction of a fraction of the market will be interested (I'm not for example). But it does...

Add A Colossal $250 Sailing Ship To Your D&D Minis Collection!

So I'll bite. Why are they producing a sailing ship? It's really cool that they are, and the ship looks neat (and the description of features sounds awesome). But don't the Icons of the Realms 'minis' usually tie into one of the story lines? Is there a seafaring thing I've missed? Cool if it's...
