D&D 5E (2014) Could the Revised/Variant Ranger be released by the end of the year?

I'll admit that I've had my hopes up that the next version of the revised ranger (or its swap out features) would show up in the November or December UA. So maybe next week. But I don't have my hopes super high. Some of the comments from Crawford make me think that they might be considering...

D&D 5E (2014) Could the Revised/Variant Ranger be released by the end of the year?

Huh. I thought it was the reverse of that. We'd see another playtest of the ranger before we'd see the Mystic or Artificer. Could be I'm remembering wrong. AD

D&D 5E (2014) Could the Revised/Variant Ranger be released by the end of the year?

Crawford talked about this at some length in a recent dragon talk thing he did with Tito on Twitch (I presume it'll eventually show up in their podcast stream). He didn't give any timelines but it gels with what DEFCON 1 says. An interesting addition was that he said that the part of the ranger...

D&D 5E (2014) Nathan Stewart Promises WotC will do something with new settings in 2018

I see what you're saying. But I got the impression he meant new to 5e. It was a quick answer, and so I didn't think he was being careful with the wording. That said, it's why I just quoted what he said. That interpretation is definitely just mine. AD

D&D 5E (2014) Nathan Stewart Promises WotC will do something with new settings in 2018

He doesn't say. But I really think he's referring to existing settings other than FR. He's been asked about supporting other settings in other chats and responds that they are working on it. So I would be very surprised if he meant a brand new setting. In part, I think he used the word 'new'...

D&D 5E (2014) Nathan Stewart Promises WotC will do something with new settings in 2018

I suppose it's a matter of how much lead time they use. We know that WotC plans way in advance. Mearls tweets about Dark Sun read like he'd messed around with it over a weekend-- which sounds like a starting point rather than something that is deep in progress. That said, they playtested...

D&D 5E (2014) Nathan Stewart Promises WotC will do something with new settings in 2018

So, Nathan Stewart does these fireside chats on twitch. He did one today: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/205845329 At about the 28:10 mark he promises that WotC will do 'something' with new settings in 2018, 'either on DM's Guild or officially published'. He says there will be 'movement' on that...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond's Epanded Racial Feats are available on DM's Guild

Sounds reasonable to me. I should say that the compendium is a useful tool even without buying anything. All the SRD stuff is free, and I've looked up rules at the table just on my phone and found it very handy. AD

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond's Epanded Racial Feats are available on DM's Guild

I'm afraid they haven't released it yet. But I'll let you know when they do. They have said it will be 'soon'. But I've learned from experience that 'soon' can mean all sorts of things from a software company. Mind you, I understand why they avoid giving dates. And I strongly suspect it will...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond's Epanded Racial Feats are available on DM's Guild

Yeah. I just thought of them as fun little perks, with the early access to the mobile app being the most fun one. But nothing that would have convinced me to buy a book that I wasn't going to anyway. AD

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond's Epanded Racial Feats are available on DM's Guild

They came at no extra cost when you pre-ordered. The pdf linked here costs $3. Not sure how they are handling getting the feats in DDB if you didn't pre-order, though if you bought the pdf they'd be easy enough to enter using the homebrew feats functionality. AD

The State of D&D: Products, Psionics, Settings, & More

In the part where Mike is discussing their rough map of how all the settings tie together and where they fit in, he specifically says that it is in terms of a product that they would be a part of. A few seconds later, as he mentions how the worlds all tie together, he says something like...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's and Counterspell

I haven't seen the rule. But am I understanding right that with this alternate rule you can still counterspell, even if you don't know what the spell is. But if you want to know what the spell is (and ensure you are not wasting a spell slot) then someone needs to identify it first? AD

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on this article about Black Culture & the D&D team dropping the ball?

Fair enough. Probably the difference here is that I generally use a homebrew world and am a bit less tied to the tropes common in most fantasy settings. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure I use them (probably without thinking) but Nyambe would probably have fit right in anyway. AD

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on this article about Black Culture & the D&D team dropping the ball?

Huh. My memory of Nyambe was that is was very much intended as a D&D setting, with orc tribes (with a much different flavor) and the rest. And I'd even intended to drop it in to my game. But I'll admit it has been a very long time since I looked at it. I just remember really liking what they had...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on this article about Black Culture & the D&D team dropping the ball?

Thank you very much for the input. Very informative. My apologies for not catching your earlier references in the thread. I'm usually pretty good about reading through threads, but at 22 pages, I'll admit I just jumped in the pool instead of going through all the discussion. My bad. Cheers, AD

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on this article about Black Culture & the D&D team dropping the ball?

Well, in fairness, it was a third party supplement, and it's over a decade old. Not sure how well known it was. I really liked it. Had a really different feel than traditional settings, and I thought they were creative in incorporating what I presume was actual African lore (but who the heck...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on this article about Black Culture & the D&D team dropping the ball?

Has anyone here ever used the Nyambe campaign setting (OGL-- 3rd edition)? I really enjoyed reading that campaign book but never had an opportunity to use it. I never really considered whether it was a positive representation of African or black culture. I'm sort of curious where that effort...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls states on Twitter hardcover adventures now annual releases

So, I'm always hesitant to enter these sort of internet debates. Because in the end, we'll both end up speculating about why they are doing what they are doing. Educated speculating I'll grant. But there are simply things we don't know. And then we'll run in circles. I don't generally find that...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls states on Twitter hardcover adventures now annual releases

I'll just make the observation that several folks on the D&D team have suggested they are planning to provide support for other campaign worlds, but that because they wanted to 'do it right' they were taking their time with rolling out that support. The comments have been vague but not evasive...
