D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

You do get the character builder, neither of which FG or Roll20 do well (it's not their purpose. so not a complaint). And roll20 isn't much for smaller screens. And if they eventually get a good export working for roll20 and FG, it'd be a nice enhancement of those two platforms. I also find the...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

One might argue they are just trying to skip pdf's as we move to better digital formats for their products. Of course, maybe they are jumping the gun, since a lot of people seem to want pdf's (though i'd be interested in valid survey data on that). Also, as noted in this thread, plenty of...

Yes. That is one of the more useful features. And one that didn't even occur to me till I used it. AD

This is probably in that 'agree to disagree' area for me. AD

Well, I will suggest they check what I wrote in case I got something wrong. But thank you. AD

Also worth mentioning, I suppose, in light of the pdf 'discussion'. The books will be part of the searchable database with all the items there to find. But the full text will also be available to go through, chapter by chapter, linked, etc. With maps. So you get all the content in a readable...

I think that FAQ would be a great idea for them, since a lot of the same questions get asked over and over again. But, since I happen to have been fairly obsessively following their progress (yes, I know. I could spend my time better), I can partly answer some of your questions: 1) Twitch: They...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

You certainly don't need it. It's definitely a lot easier than Third Edition. However I probably game with about 10 different people of varying skill levels. And an easy-to-use character builder that walks you through character creation is extremely valuable. Even for fifth edition. Some people...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

I don't know if this will help you. But you will definitely be able to print a character sheet by the time the software launches. Also they are eventually going to provide exporting of those character sheets to the roll20 and fantasy ground formats. AD

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

I would never try to convince you to buy a product you don't want or really need. However, you don't have to pay a fee to use homebrew content. You can enter homebrew content for free. The subscription simply gives you access to other people's homebrew content that they have decided to make...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

Note: Developers have said you will eventually be able to export characters to both roll20 and FG https://twitter.com/DnDBeyond/status/887313634904481794 Which is pretty stellar. As much as I love roll20, creating characters there is a bit kludgey. Also-- The DDB format is much more user...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

This post from Adam Bradford on their forums gets at this, at least in part: http://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/news-announcements/5335-release-date-august-15th-pricing-details-announced?comment=73 So yes, a combat tracker is planned. As well as an encounter builder. And the...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

FWIW, there will be offline functionality via mobile apps sometime after launch. Secondarily-- a pdf is a far less functional version of the books than is being offered by DDB. With DDB you get access to the full content of the book and get full integration into the toolset. AD

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

Worth noting that their homebrew tools pretty much let you enter all the data yourself without buying any books. And they are offering the toolset (and all SRD+Basic) for free. As well as the tools to enter the data. I kind of see it as paying them for the data entry. (i.e., doing the scanning...

Not yet. But that'll show up before the end of the beta I believe. They're actually still making a lot of adjustments each week. AD

With all the filters and the interface, I find it much more convenient. I've already started using it on my phone at the table to look stuff up. YMMV AD

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

Probably worth noting that they've said they will add the capability to export characters to roll20 and FG sometime after launch. That's a big plus for me. More so for my less tech savvy players. (DDB will be a much easier 'builder' than any of the roll20 sheets). AD

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's for a specific setting according to Mearls

Ah! That makes a lot more sense. And now, to me, it clearly reads that way. Maybe because I want it to. But, yes, twitter conversations are hard to understand sometimes. AD

D&D 5E (2014) How can I contact Mike Mearls and ask him about Adamantine weapons?

I took it to mean that +3 weapons would have to be made of adamantine (as opposed to all adamantine weapons being +3). But not clear from the tweet. Mostly I take it as a sign that WotC won't be doing anything soon with adamantine weapons and that we'll just have to figure it out for ourselves...
