D&D 5E (2014) Why do Monks only have d8 HP instead of d10 HP?

I don't know what monks are "supposed" to do, I was just mentioning my experience observing that kind of character in the hands of new players. That said, I don't believe that "mobility and other class features" should be an excuse for being outclassed in combat by other characters. Utility...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do Monks only have d8 HP instead of d10 HP?

Seriously, Dungeon Masters, why all the hate for Sneak Attack? What did Sneak Attack do to you to deserve so much effort to disable it?

D&D 5E (2014) Why do Monks only have d8 HP instead of d10 HP?

It would be okay for them to have smaller HP pool if they could dish a lot of damage at-will. It's really frustrating when a new player choses to play as a monk or rogue thinking they're going to be amazingly effective in combat just to be severely outperformed by the fighter and barbarian...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you of preferred this Proficiency Bonus instead of what we got?

3d6 makes the result so predictable that we might as well get rid of the check and just have the DM decide on the outcome.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you of preferred this Proficiency Bonus instead of what we got?

Sorry, I still can't see the problem. You just posted a bunch of numbers but you didn't say anything why the default system is "wrong".

D&D 5E (2014) Healing Word "HD" House Rule

You are correct here, but let's not forget about a minor, but significant difference: Back in 4e, failed death saves didn't reset until your next rest.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you of preferred this Proficiency Bonus instead of what we got?

My thoughts: People just like to tinker with the system for the sake of it. Would you care to explain why you are "not a fan" of the current progression? And how would your houserule make the game better?

D&D 5E (2014) Grumbling about New (and Announced) Releases

I can taste the salt in this post, but it's still completely true.

D&D 5E (2014) Grumbling about New (and Announced) Releases

Yes, I'm really disappointed too, but not because of "high magic". I just happen to hate Critical Role with all my heart and I also hate WoTC trying to force MtG into D&D. Ah, and their insistence on using "NPC guide to something" format for this new Draconomicon also makes me very very angry.

D&D 5E (2014) Healing Word "HD" House Rule

Being a healer in 3e was about crafting a bunch of Wands of Cure Light Wounds (or Wand of Lesser Vigor if you had access to the splat).

D&D General Do you prefer more or less Skills?

I have this weird thing going on where in one hand I love robust systems and clear rules. They are great tools and they help making sure everyone is on the same page and that the game will be running fair and consistent. On the other hand, I'm a firm believer in using the fiction and the...

D&D General Do you prefer more or less Skills?

Ah yes. I keep having to remind them of the basics. Angry has a nice article about that: https://theangrygm.com/dear-players-a-better-way/

D&D General Do you prefer more or less Skills?

Nah, man. It's really annoying when I say something like "I would love to have an official option for a more lethal game" or "It would be nice if we had an official variant for limited cantrips" and people are like: "Yeah, just take this third party book or houserule it yourself". Yes, I am...

D&D General Do you prefer more or less Skills?

That's my vote too. Skills had their purpose back in 3e and 4e, but now I feel they are just another vestigial organ that only serves the purpose of making the players believe they are like "buttons" to be pressed. I feel like I'm dying inside every time I hear a player say "I want to make a...

True. I hope they go back with that decision.

I bet your table only does one encounter/day. That's how people play now days.

D&D 5E (2014) Healing Word "HD" House Rule

I mean, if you got focused down to the point you were the only one out of healing surges even with all the defensive buffs from three leaders, you probably would have been dead regardless of the edition. Make no mistake, trying to outlive the opponents by means of healing is incredibly...
