WotC Dungeons & Dragons Fans Seek Removal of Oriental Adventures From Online Marketplace

No disagreement there, but as predicted this is not a thread about the D&D books Oriental Adventures but rather the word “Oriental”. This thread will live longer in the General category. Otherwise, the thread will deviate from the Dire Bare’s original post, and Morrus will swoop in with red...

WotC Dungeons & Dragons Fans Seek Removal of Oriental Adventures From Online Marketplace

Can this and the other Oriental Adventures thread be moved to RPG General? Before widespread usage of PDFs....TSR’s Oriental Adventures had already been out of print. Same with the 3e version. At this point, do we here at EnWorld need to troll each other for another 120 pages, on something...

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Classes Level 1.

I wasn’t claiming that casting Guidance was hidden, but that it is a prayer....a prayer for guidance. If behavior like this is often not controversial in the real world, or at least does engender violence against the person issuing the prayer.....the same could very well be true in a D&D world.

I have had horrible luck with Toll the Dead on my cleric character. The DM keeps making the Saving Throw, even with creatures with negative Wisdom modifiers. I have had the Cantrip work a measly 8%......it has worked just 4 times, and the failure to success ratio has not been close to evening...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I too strict?

I would also point out, that 1e training rules for level advancement was also more balanced then 5e, as the martial classes did not automatically know how to use every weapon. The fighter that found the Vorpal bardiche, typically had to wait until they could learn to use the weapon in...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

Depends upon if your are delivering the joke or the butt of the joke. I am old enough to have seen on broadcast TV the original Looney Tunes cartoons that had animated blackface depictions. This was considered normal, and in the late 1970s to early 1980s, discussions of the ethics of blackface...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

Orcslayer, most derogatory representations are not concerned with fidelity. In fact, extreme, non realistic parody of the target group is the point. One is not aiming to be accurate. That is true for anti-Catholic rhetoric and it is especially true for American depictions of “blackface”. Many...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

To be fair it has always been awkward 😀. Like all the Jack Sparrows at a Renaissance Faire. Drow Larpers are either old Drizzt fanboys, or S&M enthusiasts 🧝🏿‍♀️ It really isn’t. Orcslayer78, if you have no clue about D&D all one would see is just another weird example of people mocking dark...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

That is the the exact point, there is no non institutionalized racialized menu to order from. Some people don’t have the option to just order what they want or need. The Lizard folk in the Baldur’s Gate CRPG needed to have persons willing to listen, and consider their point of view for a...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

Analogies are not literal. Speech is action, action is speech... ...and the pepperoni pizza in this analogy is actually a gunman shooting people they do not like. I grew up in Poway, Ca. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poway_synagogue_shooting#Attack Dude, sometimes the pizza comes for you...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

I’m not unsympathetic to this. Netflix, is a company. If you think this is window dressing tell them. I do not disagree with you, it is a feeble move. But then again, so is not farting during a funeral. A token gesture can demonstrate empathy, at least.

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

Mercurius, that is a gross oversimplification of reality. Firstly, Satire, and humor preferences are not universal across cultures. Irony and Satire rules the funny bones of Americans of a certain age, not everyone. I have Jewish ancestry, (amongst others), so while I have never listened to a...

D&D General Netflix pulls Community's Dungeons & Dragons episode over blackface concerns

A Police Officer kneeled on an Innocent Man’s Neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, killing the human being they were sworn to protect, and depriving George Floyd of the Right to Trial, let alone Life and Liberty. The Tulsa Massacre, The Tuskegee Experiments, Juneteenth....these topics, and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I too strict?

You are not being strict at all, from a rules perspective, as you are not following the rules. Per the a PHB: LEARNING SPELLS OF lST LEVEL AND HIGHER Each time you gain a wizard level, you can add two wizard spells of your choice to your spellbook for free. Copying a Spell into the Book. When...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Dumbest Rogue

Expertise: Athletics + the Tavern Brawler Feat+ the Grappler Feat has a nice synergy. Attack with Improvised Garrote (wire cord), grapple as a bonus action. Once Grappler comes on line, all attacks have Advantage. ( In a Grapple) Fighter levels may not even be necessary....Evasion + Uncanny...

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Classes Level 1.

It depends on how elaborate you deem the verbal component for Guidance is. I have been engaged in many a conversation where a participant makes a religious exclamation like “God Willing” and so forth........this could very well be the verbal component of the Guidance spell. Artificers and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Classes Level 1.

You have my apologies for misrepresenting your position. Again the intention was for a humorous post, alas I rolled poorly, on my Performance check. Need to boost my CHA score at the next opportunity. On Feb 5, 2020, in a thread entitled: [Poll] Are any of the base classes too Weak, you, Ruin...

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Classes Level 1.

Ruin, too be fair, you have never liked Monks in almost any edition. Not 1e, 3e, not 5e...not sure how you felt about 4e monks. The position you have advocated previously was: “Player’s that play Monks do not mind being mechanically inferior”. This is such an outstandingly bad argument, it is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psi Playtest

I contend the “average player” does not test out Unearthed Arcana material.😀 The “average player” also likely is not a RPG board denizen. The self selected grouping of persons that playtests new material and takes the time to slog through the WoTC feedback screens, (which do not engender a...
