D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

Except in the case of Wish. This is a quote from the spell: The basic use of this spell is to duplicate any other spell of 8th level or lower. You don't need to meet any requirements in that spell, including costly components. The spell simply takes effect. The definition of the word any...

    D&D 5E (2014) A use for True Strike

    1) It is not about “being more damaging”, that is the wrong perspective. It is, however, about being worth the cost of the action. Minor Illusion will do no damage, typically. Yet a clever illusion, can be worth spending your action and concentration for a round or two, in combat. If True...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

Actually, I think most of these are not in Ruins of Undermountain. They are in Ruins of Undermountain II, The Lost Level, Stardock, and Maddoth’s castle. Some of these levels were published 6 years after the original product.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Revisits Psionics

Ok Full Disclosure.....I am not following this thread. (The Buzz from it seems akin, to an Angry, hornets nest🌼) Your math checks out to me, (and I as well), think this is an awesome use of psychic power. Terrain, plays a large role in my game. Being able to jump, can sometimes be the only...

    D&D 5E (2014) What 4th Level Feat for a Cleric of Trickery?

So I have a 3rd level Cleric of Trickery, that also bears a Dragonmark of Shadow. Since Pass Without Trace is on both the Divine Domain spell list and the Dragonmark list, the DM has allowed me to replace Pw/oT with Shadowblade, (as a Dragonmark spell...preparation still required). Abilities...

D&D General Two sessions in a row without combat...

Honestly, Prak, the situation as a whole, sounds quite cool! I love those moments, when I don’t know what will happen. As long as real world friendships are not in danger....having Civil War, Marvel style, in your game can be quite invigorating....though a pain to plan for as a DM.

D&D General Two sessions in a row without combat...

That explains your palpable frustration, in your originating post. This is a difficult spot to be in, as a DM. Whichever way you place your thumb to tip the scales, you will be disappointing half the group. My group of 20+ years, has had this divided group dynamic for all of 5e, but never in...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

I will gladly concede that, hidden treasure and tough scenarios are “edition agnostic”. 😁 Clearly, this is a matter of aesthetic judgement, which means somewhat individual and arbitrary. That said, Ruins of Undermountain, does not evoke a 2e design sensibility to me. It does not ‘feel’ like...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

Since Undermountain was first mentioned in Waterdeep and the North, an AD&D product. The story of the Crazed Venturers teleporting onto a tavern table, inspired me. I did not wait to 2nd edition to make a version of Undermountain. Which is the genesis of my point, that all versions of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Here's why we want a Psion class

If D&D design and resources were more in line with Buckminster Fuller, then when one person gets what they wanted, we all do, if one person loses, we all do. Unfortunately, D&D resources and design time does not exist in a “Bucky Dome”..... ..........It lives in a Thunder Dome! Two ideas...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

Luckily, I don’t think any D&D loot crimes were committed in DotMM. It has been awhile since I read it, but my memory is that each level has around 5 Magic Items on it. Sure, some of these Magic Items will be potions, scrolls, minor magic items, spellbooks and just plain cursed items. Some...

The Black Dahlia Murder and D&D: An Interview

The band, The Sword, drips fantasy. “Bane of the Demon Lord, Slayer of the spider priests” The lyrics drip Against the Drow, to me.

D&D General Which era and style/flavor of the Forgotten Realms do you play in?

😁 Aye, It is wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

The Original 1e box set was only 3 levels, each left “unfinished”. The product was explicity designed so you could customize and fill in the blank areas. Undermountain is at it’s best, in my view, when the forays are short. The characters need to question the Black Viper about a murder she...

D&D 5E (2014) Want a better Rogue? Build a Wizard. Or why play a Rogue?

One tactic that has not been described is in groups with wizards and rogues, the tiny Familiar, in the pocket trick, allows for an ‘open Channel’ between the rogue and wizard. The trick is also useful to realize what is happening when the scouting character gets paralyzed by ghouls, which by...

D&D 5E (2014) Want a better Rogue? Build a Wizard. Or why play a Rogue?

I think you are missing my point. Most of the clever, non magical heroes from myth and history fall under being often a good fit for the Rogue class...thematically. Every class when played with cleverness and vim, is going to perform better than the exact same character played less optimally...
