All Characters Should be Good at Talking to NPCs

The subject of niche protection goes back to what i said before about a lot of rpgs having a single social skill (such as persuade in 5e). I think if you have a collection of skills it does two things: allows for different social niches to exist within a group (multiple "faces"), and presents...

All Characters Should be Good at Talking to NPCs

I generally avoid social rolls if the players make a good point unless they request to make the roll. In Shadow of the Demon Lord they have INT and WIL stats (no CHA) and I choose based on if they are using emotions or rational arguments to try and decieve, persude or otherwise manipulate an...

    Recommendation: Modern Fantasy Little/No Combat

I havent played it, but might cthulu dark work for you? I believe PCs automatically fail combat and the (very light) system is built around investigating the mythos, which could be altered to whatever weird science/magic is going on.

    D&D 5E (2014) Humans Only

The amount of assumptiom and ire a sometimes simple post can generate is what keeps me from getting involved in a lot of conversations here. I'm all for freshening things up than playing the same old campaign. If I was in a campaign with only humans that'd go towards doing that. But as another...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Live: Kate Welch returns with Jack Black, Reggie Watts and others!

Considering how overpowered Riddick is, he must have been a GMPC :)

Into the Mother Lands: A Sci-fi RPG by PoC Designers

It could be an emphasis due to a lot of people asking if it's 5e rather than any negativity towards 5e itself. Hard to tell without context. Anyway I wish them best, but there's no way I'd back without knowing the system.

D&D 5E (2014) Too Much Spellcasting in Your D&D? Just Add a Little Lankhmar!

I don't think it's going to meet your criteria, but my settings rule for 5e is that casting spells age you prematurely. This is inspired by earlier edition spells and is purely cosmetic. 1 day aging when casting a cantrip. 1 week when casting a spell level 1 - 5 1 month when casting a spell...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

I'm a big fan of this as well, but I figure it would require a bit of balance to get right. I think it'd be class abilities at certain levels, for example a fighter at 6th maybe gets authority in social settings and gets a bonus from it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

It seems like Rob Schwalb (Shadow of the Demon Lord) went with the intention to put combat balance more in the martial favour and in the campaign I'm running I think it works quite well. Warriors and martial paths get bonuses on their hit and damage rolls, where that is much rarer for magical...

D&D General Professional DMs making $45k/year off it?

I think there'd be a market for it over here. Great for a number of expats in Asia who miss their RP groups from back home.

D&D General Professional DMs making $45k/year off it?

I would pay for sessions of games systems I haven't been able to get to the table. Coriolis, blades in the dark, the Sprawl, etc. I've tried looking through roll20 available games and it's all D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) Asian Monsters Kickstarter

Hi all, just posting a link here as I thought it might interest some others: Asian Monsters: 90+ magnificent monsters for D&D 5E It seems like there could be some really nifty ideas drawn from various cultures to bring in something fresh. I haven't bought any of their products before. What is...

D&D General Professional DMs making $45k/year off it?

In Australia we don't have the medical insurance issue and can run as a Sole Trader, so no double tax. But the challenge here would be finding enough of an audience in the time zone, or doing weird hours to work with US/UK time zones. And sadly in the big cities here USD45K is quite tough to...

D&D General Professional DMs making $45k/year off it?

I used to teach English overseas and I can confirm that reusing lessons is the way everyone goes. That's not to say you can't tweak it a little, but that requires a lot less work than creating from scratch. Best part is you refine and improve your lessons. So I think the players playing in...

D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] The Koryo Hall of Adventures

This is getting me keen to buy it. I would really dig a release with a gm screen, illustrated hand outs and themed dice!

Critical Role Critical Role’s 7-hour Campaign Finale

I pla I play street fighter 5, and seeing some professional players in how they use their techniques, changing up their tactics, and even just their split second reactions can be pretty impressive. You have to be familiar with a game though to really appreciate it I think.
