D&D 5E (2014) A First Look at Tasha’s Lineage System In AL Player’s Guide - Customizing Your Origin In D&D

Such an important point. I understand the AL perspective, but in home games if I have players or play with people that are only interested in gaming the rules, I find it makes for an unpleasant table anyway, regardless of how robust the rules are.

D&D 5E (2014) Who got their Rime today?

A druid with goodberry And a 5th level druid with goodberry could sustain 90 people a day if they used all their spell slots. Still keeping the animals warm and the crops running would be difficult. Although ome can always assume perhaps some level of divine intervention to save the plot/day.

D&D General GM's are you bored of your combat and is it because you made it boring?

Agreed. It with reaction rolls is something I wish was core and in the PHB. It's a great primer for new players to realise there's other in game options rather than fighting to the death each time.

D&D General GM's are you bored of your combat and is it because you made it boring?

In addition to terrain, particularly dynamic or destructable terrain, i tend to write down monsters default actions. This is their Personal Preservation Plan (PPP). More intelligent creatures are more likely to deviate from the plan than instinctive ones, but I always create it as a backup. One...

D&D 5E (2014) Half HP, Full heal variant

I'm thinking about a variant where PCs have half their normal HP, but after a nominal time at the end of the fight (say 1 minute) the PCs are back at their max HP. The intent is to have each fight that can be risky/potentially deadly rather than an attrition model which I think is difficult in...

Level Up (A5E) #1 Origins Playtest Document - (Heritage) Nitty Gritty Feedback

Well the PHB/SRD says what a verbal component contains: Verbal (V) Most Spells require the chanting of mystic words. The words themselves aren’t the source of the spell’s power; rather, the particular combination of sounds, with specific pitch and resonance, sets the threads of magic in...

Level Up (A5E) #1 Origins Playtest Document - (Heritage) Nitty Gritty Feedback

It also has a verbal component, so difficult if not impossible to use for social checks, sneaking, and any time where you don't want to be noticed or known for casting a spell.

Survey (A5E) Survey Results #1: Broad Outlines

I don't want social combat, but i would like a social resources system. D&d to me is more of a respurces management game than a conflict game. I'd like a system of influence and favours thst could be used. Perhaps going on a quest earns a minor favour from the regional duke, and a minor favour...

D&D General Nerfing Wizards the Old Fashioned Way: Magic User in 1e

I would play a wizard in 5e where you rolled randomly for what spells you learned. However I don't imagine many would.

Playtest (A5E) Level Up Playtest Document #1: Origins

I miss books having these kinds of breakdowns. I'd buy a setting book for 5e like this in a heartbeat.

Playtest (A5E) Level Up Playtest Document #1: Origins

I've only skimmed it so far, but I like the split. Just from a layout point, I'd second that perhaps all cultures are split into their own section, away from heritage. Whether they want to be put as generic, such as "warhorde" without mentioning orcs, or otherwise I think this would make it...

    Level Up (A5E) Improving spells

I'm so keen on Shadow of the Weird Wizard. I hope they don't change the core system too much.

    Level Up (A5E) Improving spells

Well most people have heard me mention it here, but by far my favourite magic system for fantasy is Shadow of the Demon Lord. Most schools are fairly tightly bound thematic packages of levelled spells to learn and modular, so you can combine as you want. If you want to have light and radiant...

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

It'd need a lot of work to get it right, Far above my game designing talent.

Level Up (A5E) Changes to movement and AoOs

Yeah I agree, that's why I think having min 3 or maximum 7 things that provoke is a good range for me. It's easy to keep in working memory for players new to the game along with other things that need to be remembered. My 3 items would probably be: Moving within an opponent's range Standing up...

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

Here's an untested and incomplete weapons table, but it's an idea that I've had percolating in my head for a while regarding alternate attacks with weapons: Martial Melee Weapons Basic Attack Damage Special Attack Attack Roll Modifier Damage Conditions Battleaxe Hack 1d8 slashing...

This is a cross-post, as I didn't realise I'd posted into the wrong thread! ----------------------- The psychologist George Miller came up with a "magic" number of 7 for how many chunks of information we can fit in short term memory. Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

The psychologist George Miller came up with a "magic" number of 7 for how many chunks of information we can fit in short term memory. From my experience, having everything within a range of 3-7 items of information, choices, options, etc has worked well and I use it in a lot of my presentations...
