    Closest Call In A TTRPG?

Really? We're running high level DotMM, the DM is use max monster damage, and it's pretty brutal. We're getting some pretty close TPKs almost every second session at the moment.

And there's Rob Schwalb's one as well.

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

And the simple truth is that in it's most basic form, Extra attack features are the primary source of adding power to martial characters in 5e. Then you add on elements like hunter's mark, rage damage, battle master maneuvers, colossus slay, sneak attack etc, and there's no way the sorcerer with...

Level Up (A5E) Changes to movement and AoOs

I think I'm happy with the reaction as it makes a choice for what PCs use their reaction for. I'd be happy with allowing a full attack action as an AoO, but I don't know if it's right for 5e without bumping the power significantly. I guess that's why my idea of allowing grapples came about - as...

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

I'm of two minds about this. I do think that a few items like picking up a disarmed weapon on the ground and getting up should provoke attacks of opportunity, but I'm leery of having 3e levels of AoO triggers to remember. There's a level when it gets too much. However for a few things like that...

    Level Up (A5E) Improving spells

That's very much like Savage Worlds. You have a spell called "Bolt" that you have to assign a trapping to when you learn it. So perhaps you learn the spell as fire bolt, but someone else learns it as cold bolt. Later on you could pick the same spell and learning it as thunder bolt (or...

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

for 5e as a streamlined game, I agree you could remove the simple/martial distinction and it would have very little effect. However, to the point as some have brought up, the intent of LevelUp is to increase choices/options. So with regards to this I support adding effects to weapons. In my...

Level Up (A5E) Changes to movement and AoOs

One of the things that I've thought about implementing in my next 5e campaign is to also allow an opportunity attack when a PC or creature moves within the range of an enemy, rather than just leaving range. This makes it easier for front line forces to block off areas. It also makes shove a...

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

I agree that I don't think the gating of weapn categories restrict much in the way of power. A greatsword wielding wizard is still just as likely to use their spells than if they have a dagger. The only thing weapons needs in 5e is a... "BROADSWORD"!

D&D 5E (2014) Zero to Hero: Ability Score Increases every level?

So you clearly haven't read the OP properly where i already talked about starting with a 12 or later posts where I talked about other arrays, as well as the idea of putting +1s into 2 different ability scores. I think you need to go over them again. In any case it doesn't seem like this idea...

Level Up (A5E) Rests & Level Up

Adventures in Middle Earth. The rule there is that you can only rest in a place that is designated as a sanctuary. To get places as a sanctuary, especially with some of the more "exclusive" places (read: dearven and elvish settlements) you usually either need to complete some kind of quest or...

Level Up (A5E) Where to put ability bonuses during character creation

People seem to forget about rolling and treat a +1 difference as massive. The game has been built with the assumption one charavter might only have a 14 in their primary stat with another with 18. 5e is a lot more robust than many seem to believe.

    Level Up (A5E) Improving spells

I guess that is another issue, as I prefer the spells (a truncated version) to be listed under the monster description also :)

Level Up (A5E) Rests & Level Up

I think the issue of rests has always been at odds with adventure design as neither plot points in a campaign or the exploration pillar interact with time as a resource any more. So 1 day, 3 days etc are a resource expenditure that don't really tie to anything else in game except by GM fiat. I...

    Level Up (A5E) Improving spells

I would personally prefer a spell section that lists spells by class AND level. This would mean that some spells would be duplicated, but from a player point of view I hate having to flip around to find the spell I want, or having to write it down sonewhere else. I should be able to open up to...

D&D 5E (2014) Zero to Hero: Ability Score Increases every level?

For my preferences I prefer one of two ways. 1) Use the old school method of higher starting stats but then rarely if ever increasing these, or 2) have a low array with increases and growth built into the system. For me, 5e sits between these two poles. Your method is a little higher than...

D&D 5E (2014) Zero to Hero: Ability Score Increases every level?

I don't get your point on unbalanced as everyone is affected equally, but let's look at your monk statement. A monk at level 1 can attack 2 x 1d4+1 vs a pair of daggers being 1d4+1 and 1d4 for the second - how is this different to a normal array? Secondly, that +1 becomes a +2 at level 2, so...
