    D&D 5E (2014) D&D in the Grishaverse

We've come full circle with this. I'd forgotten about it! Shadowdark spell casting checks could be indeed a a good way to do grisha powers IMO. Maybe less on the spell misfire side but maling successful checks harder so you have to be really skilled to be able to rely on your powers. I'd gone...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark looks so good!

FYI my tone was not dismissive, and marketing does not need to be considered a negative term. She has created a good project and put years of effort into it. I think that needs to be acknowledged that many of these factors are as important to a successful project as the product itself.

    Shadowdark Shadowdark looks so good!

Like @Malmuria the quickstart dodn't particularly click with me. However I think it's success shows that clear communication, marketing, good presentation and layout and strong support are highly valued in the market. While there's nothing in the rules that particularly wows me, there's nothing...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark looks so good!

While that sounds like fun, I could see the older I get the more real. I'm currently playing a middle aged man tired of his craft and sick of corruption among the powerful elite, and apart from D&D class, I'm feeling like I don't have to do any roleplay!

    Shadowdark Shadowdark looks so good!

I want to like this game, but each time I read about it, something feels like it's missing for me. Games like forbidden lands, mork borg and DCC spark my imagination, butbfor some reason this one doesn't spark joy for me. I like the real time torches rule and the always on initiative, but I'm...

D&D General Which Enworlders do you want to game with?

    MCDM officially announces their RPG

Has there been any word on the magic system and spells yet? I'm tried of the D&D tropes of fireballs and magic missiles and the like. I'd like to see some creativity and diversity in this space.

D&D 5E (2014) Ten House Rules for More Dynamic 5E Combat

That's what Shadow of the Demon Lord does. However in my experience I don't think in a pratical sense it makes much difference to 5 foot squares.

D&D 5E (2014) Ten House Rules for More Dynamic 5E Combat

A lot of people seem to forget the ranged cover rule. I'm a big fan of including it for firing into melee for sure. Also, squeezing is in thd DMG as area few other things. Do these count as house rules?

WotC Hasbro's CEO Reports OGL-Related D&D Beyond Cancellations Had Minimal Impact

It's largely to spread out the workload over the year for the countries tax office. In Australia most publicly traded companies run july 1 to june 30. But any company can apply for a different fiscal period and the Tax Office is welcoming of it. Unfortunately I have worked exclusively for...

Avoiding Death Spirals WHILE making damage count

I got inspired by Sentinel comics GYRO system and while importing the whole system would be a lot of work, for something like d&d i'm tempted to try the following: Adrenaline Surge - The first time you are hit below half HP all your attack rolls and saving throws have advantage and all attack...

    Failed Campaigns

Noting not to brag, but to challenge the Op's assertion - I have never had a failed campaign. Largely I think that is because I run campaigns with a discreet ending.

    D&D 5E (2014) Making Combat Mean Something [+]

Roll for PTSD! Unknown Armies 3e has a cool mechanic where the better you get at violence tge moelre capable in combat you are, but the worse you get in social situations. Hard to incorporate to D&D though. Are you looking for only physical consequences or other types as well? Maybe engaging...

D&D General The Worst Part About Leaving D&D...

I haven't run D&D for years but still enjoy Enworld. I predict that if people move to other games, they'll just start talking about other games.

    Health Die Mechanic Idea

One thing that a mechanic like that could do is increase uncertainty and potentially tension when taking damage. It would mean that that one hit you take could be a mere scratch of it could connect and really hurt you. I'd like to see if it works like that in practice though.

    Health Die Mechanic Idea

I like it. It'd be interesting to see in play. The thread on resource dice made me thinj about using that for hit points. Every time you roll a 1 on the die it goes down a step, and ifnyou're rolling on a d4, you're really at the end of your tether. In either case you'd probably need a method...

INTO THE MOTHERLANDS Publisher Cancels Plans

It's not about being a preorder. Projects have prototypes. It's expected in all fields. This doesn't need to be a finished product, but a sample of what they can provide. They did not show they were professional and organised. They did not show that they were co-ordinated.
