D&D 5E (2024) Put initial stat bonus in class not background

No it's not the most logical. It's the nature vs nurture debate that hasn't been fully solved in the real world. Perhaps if you have some scret knowledge of this you should share it with the scientific community.

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

I've been running shadow of the demon lord for a few years and it dossn't have critical hits for most monsters. (It also has crits as a class feature of fighters as a special treat just for them) I find one advantage is to make planning difficulty for encounters much easier. If I know on...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

A lot of people overlook the average damage value in the MM. I'm sure it was put there for an option to use. If I remember right, in acquisitions inc didn't chris perkins typically use the average + a single die roll? I'm even more blasphemous. I make players roll defense and give the monsters...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

Shadow of the Demon Lord doesn't typically have crits for enemies (if it doss it's spelled out in the monster stat block), and if played by the book, many fights are extremely deadly. Crits != threat

D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

I suspect for tables that really find these rules problematic they could easily change the rules to only giving inspiration on an attack roll or a saving throw. The only "policing" you have to do then is make people roll ability checks to attack a chair, not an attack roll. But really if you...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

I've been using fixed damage and no crits for a while with a caveat. I have 4 types on enemies typically. A mook who has average HP and average damage, a tough who has max HP and average damage, and an elite who has average HP and max damage, and a boss who has max ho and max damage. It's...

D&D 5E (2024) IF you're allowing a PC to roll, WHEN does autosuccess matter?

I don't understand why this would be difficult. A citizen is trapped under a cart. The str 6 halfling wants to lift it. The DM determines it won't be possible, no roll. The str 16 goliath wants to try. Roll. Do you let players roll for everything? You have to set bounds of what is possible in...

D&D 5E (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

In addition to this, it creates an interesting momentum dynamic. If you use inspiration to get advantage, you have increased chances of rolling another 20, which gives you more inspiration, etc

D&D 5E (2024) How Would You Make Inspiration More Used?

In the games I play that's been the houserule for ages.

D&D 5E (2024) Should we have Level 1 ASIs at all?

My preference is a restricted starting array/point buy only, and then get a 1 point ASI every level. It's too far removed from the 5e leveling structure as it currently is however.

D&D 5E (2024) Idea for starting ASIs, three way split.

Capping is a much better idea but still a too sensitive topic, especially when it comes to intelligence. An Orc might have an INT cap of 18 while a gnome mighy have a cap of 20 or 22. The Orc at 18 would still be far smarter than almost all the population, but it's still smacks of racism. I...

D&D 5E (2024) What PHB races should have darkvision?

Yeah that would be the goal. Only monsters get darkvision, so the PCs are at a disadvantage going into monster lairs. But yes, unless i houserule and do a bunch of testing, i'll never see it. EDIT: and dragonborn smelling gold would be super cool!

D&D 5E (2024) How Would You Make Inspiration More Used?

Yes it does get repetitive. But in the other hand, that repetition drives those core elements of the character home to the other players. I would expect that after a few times it would become "i'm claiming advantage cause of the grandma thing". Some other players might remember them as the...

D&D 5E (2024) How Would You Make Inspiration More Used?

I'm a fan of reverse spiral mechanics, they can encourage some tense situations. I'd also add in that another party member can gain inspiration if an ally goes down in a fight. On uses, another thought I had would be to expend an inspiration to deal max damage. I could see that getting some use.

D&D 5E (2024) How Would You Make Inspiration More Used?

I'm not running d&d currently, but i have thought of what house rules i'd make. A big one would be that a character can once per session use one of their BIFTs to gain advantage on a roll that relates to it. Each BIFT can be used once. So that's up to 5 advantages per session. The onus is on...

D&D 5E (2024) What PHB races should have darkvision?

I think no races should get darkvision. A few should get other senses like dwarves getting permanent tremorsense, orcs getting enhanced smell (can smell living creatures), dragonborn having permanent detect magic. It's too radical for most and will never happen, but that's the dream!

Blacklist Miniatures Fantasy Set 1 - Failed $1M Kickstarter

How much did the kickstarter go for? $1M? So they spent 90% on production costs? If so that makes no sense whatsoever. On top of the red flags mentioned in other posts. they should have retained funds from prior projects that were quite successful. It sounds like they sunk most of that into...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Static DCs don't mean that doors suddenly level up to match pace. It means that at high level you're not even going to roll for 90% of the worlds locks. You're on to bigger and better things.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

This is a key feature for me. I see the dumbed down argument trotted out a lot and I think it's a bad take. I work in finance and i'm often tired. The last thing I want to do is detailed analysis, admin work or a bunch of reading. If I can get a simplified stat block with a couple of options...

KALYMBA: African inspired RPG live on kickstarter

There's a cool RPG just relaunched on kickstarter: KALYMBA: African inspired RPG i'm glad they relaunched. I'm not connected to the project. I'm just a keen backer that would like to see it funded. The system looks to be overall a simple 2d6 based attribute + skill system, nothing...
