    New Level-less RPG

I'm looking up GURPS and Hero System now. I haven't looked at GURPS in a long time. Savage Worlds is a game my group may be playing pretty soon after a couple of Pathfinder adventures. Thank you for responding.

    New Level-less RPG

You are correct. There would be, in this hypothetical system, a sizable list of milestones that a character could hit which would earn them "an experience point," or whatever you want to call it. Then the character would "purchase" class and species features a la carte. Which makes game balance...

How to deal with a "true roleplayer".

Beats me. The +1 to each stat works pretty well, although it may have imbalanced 1e. (Which some would say wasn’t balanced to begin with.)

    New Level-less RPG

I’m not changing anything, I’m brainstorming ideas for a system that, if implemented, would be built from the ground up. The benefit would be a more direct degree of design control over your character in the context of dialing back on homogenization (all characters can do everything that the...

    New Level-less RPG

Gurps I have played, in the very early 90s. I remember next to nothing about it, except that I didn’t care for it. Savage Worlds is one of the systems on the table right now among my group, but I haven’t actually tried it yet. I intend to play an adventure or two of rpg x, then move on to...

    Failed Campaigns

Pretty much most of them? Although there are two that come to mind because of toxicity. One was more recently (about 2-3 years ago) with internet randos. Session zero, character creation, discussion of the goals and first adventure. It was the afternoon of session one and I was taking a nap...

How to deal with a "true roleplayer".

There were a bunch of BS limitations put on nonhumans because GG couldn't fathom anyone might have other reasons than game mechanics for game and character choices. Which I'm sure probably came from his generation of [war]gamers and the specific circle he rolled with. (Communities were not so...

    New Level-less RPG

I've been monkeying around with some ideas. One thing I'm toying with is what an RPG without levels would look like. I'm trying to see if it's feasable to take the idea of a "level" and sort of divide it up into its constituent components that a player can "buy." Like if you thought of a...

    Brainstorming on Game Design?

Is it appropriate to float game design ideas on this forum and if so where should such discussions be posted? Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Allow me to introduce you to Games Workshop.... 😆😜 Nobody but nobody milks editing game mechanics for cash like GW.

How to deal with a "true roleplayer".

When you're at my table, good, evil, min max, heavy RP, doesn't matter, you're on a team. Period. If what your character would do isn't agreeable and fun for everybody, then you need a new character.

D&D General Rules, Rules, Rules: Thoughts on the Past, Present, and Future of D&D

It feels to me like the pendulum was more on the DM Fiat side of things in the 70s and '80s, and was kind of in flux in the 90s. Starting in the 2000s ish, it had swung in the direction of player agency. I think we're going to see it swing back about the time that the old school DMs start dying...

I don't intend to return to D &D for the foreseeable future. Version changes are not relevant to me.

I do not believe that future history will prove this to be true. Speculating.

So if you're saying 1.1 was a draft by virtue only of the entire community telling wizards of the Coast to get bent, then regardless of the vocabulary word you want to attach I agree and my point remains the same. Wizards of the Coast drafted this license, draft, stream of consciousness, work of...

I'm pretty sure I saw the same leaks you did. I don't have any special or privileged access to information that everybody else doesn't already know. I don't know if I saw scanned documents that actually came off the paper that was sent, or if I saw a digital recreation, or whatever. I remain...

I sure hope not. I believe those responsible for the ogl debacle are hoping we will.

No disrespect or hostility intended, but I do not believe 1.1 was a draft. Maybe they knew it was a long shot, but if enough 3pps had signed on to it for that initial wave, the leaked version we saw would now be codified policy. (I believe) That is entirely reasonable, I don't necessarily...

Kyle Brink Interviewed by Teos Abadia (Alphastream) on OGL, WotC, & D&D

I don't really believe that any human being is entirely good or entirely evil... Well maybe a small handful of rare individuals. But the fact that the ammunition was provided by many does not absolve the one(s) who pulled the trigger of any accountability.
