    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's Guide to Monsters: General Discussion.

This is such absolute crap. How is this even remotely supposed to keep up with anyone else in virtually any class? First, the attributes... Intelligence is a straight up crap attribute that is the official dump stat of the game. If one isn't a wizard or warlock, any points put towards...

The 10 Player Races in Volo's Guide Revealed

If Dragonborn, Tiefling, Drow, Goliath, Firbolg, Lizardfolk, Triton, Tabaxi and Kenku are not "monsterous races", there really is no god damn excuse except incompetance and laziness. So two weeks before the book is slated to be announced, we get absolute, indisputable confirmation from the...

The 10 Player Races in Volo's Guide Revealed

Please don't tell me this is the list of everything. So Hobgoblins get a +2 in the universally good attribute, +1 in the trashiest and.... crap proficiency that every single class in the game gets or cannot possibly take advantage of. And is expected to... fail in front of everyone. Bugbears...

D&D 5E (2014) Player Races in Upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters

I would wager that has a lot to do with the others not being presented as antagonists in the book. In effect, the 6 that "don't get fluff" probably actually get considerably more in the book than those that get the two page write up and aren't really mentioned or described elsewhere in the book.

The 10 Player Races in Volo's Guide Revealed

4/5ths of my top choices are there, the only one missing is Gith. But I guess it is best to hold off on them until they decide to tackle the topic of psionics. And there are others that I know people want, but they are specifically Nentir vale Races or Eberron races or Dragonlance races or Dark...

Yet More From VOLO - Goblins, Nilbogs, Kobolds, Hobgoblins, & Barghests!

Well, yes-- in fact you can. The simple fact that the description of "goblin lairs" is done without giving them an adjective ("hill goblin" or "forest goblin") or specifying which region's goblins are being talked about does pretty definitively suggest that the idea is that this encompasses all...

D&D 5E (2014) Player Races in Upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters

That will probably be Orcs, I imagine. There really isn't all that much difference between Gnolls and Orcs besides the fur and claws. Maybe you could argue that Orcs are a bit more civilized.. but both end up with hide armor and, inexplicably, iron or steel weapons. I noticed on the latest...

Yet More From VOLO - Goblins, Nilbogs, Kobolds, Hobgoblins, & Barghests!

There are definitely some good ideas here, the only concern I have is that this presents it as though goblins have only one very specific habitat and set their lairs up only in one very specific way. Not even an indication that these are <adjective> goblins it is talking about-- so any idea of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Post a character, get a Pic.

While my request is atypical of my pcs, it should be noted that half the reason was to break up the monotomy of elve and humans and give you a chance to interpret something different. As I noted, my hope was that you migght make use of the idea as an npc in your own future game. But naturally...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnolls: Playable or Not?

I think you need better primer to the warcraft world. Orcs and especially goblins are hardly as unrationally friendly as d&d dragonborn. It is something Lord of the Rings and by extension d&d absolutely fails at-- the simple idea that you have a whole damn population of people and thus you have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnolls: Playable or Not?

You state this like you are disagreeing with me, but it further supports my point. Gnolls aren't included because these are specifically the Forgotten Realms Gnolls as opposed to the Eberron Gnolls or the Nentir Vale Gnolls, the later of which would naturally be a PC race. Similarly, Orcs and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnolls: Playable or Not?

Uh-huh... and I guess because of Hellboy II, Elves must be unplayable. Not that anyone would want to play one given the rules made for them in the Harry Potter series. And because of Elder Scrolls, Dwarves must be unplayable-- after all, they are extinct. And since Halflings don't exist in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnolls: Playable or Not?

Well, to be clear here... I think you missed the point. The point is that hobgoblins and gnolls are not equally monsterous. Hobgoblins, as being presented in the current lore, aren't really particularly more "monsters" than dozens of human cultures that have existed in human history that were...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnolls: Playable or Not?

Both 3rd edition and 4th edition put way more effort into making Gnolls playable than they did for the far more popular (and less difficult to justify) Goblin race. So obviously someone at WotC has an agenda in regards to them. That being said... I do think Gnolls are meant to be demonic, low...

5e Homebrew Setting: Malebolge, Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy

I think you may be looking at things entirely backwards there. The classes are fundamentally just sets of abilities. You can use the class without remotely incorporating every single bit of fluff ever written about it in any published book ever. It really doesn't much matter how or why one...

D&D 5E (2014) Player Races in Upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters

That would be quite a lot of PC races and I would have to imagine that a lot of them would be done with very little thought and consideration and come out quite badly. I don't want to see a bunch of them coming out anything like those found in the DMG where simply because they thought of a...

    The Samurai Is Back

Okay, but here is the thing... let's say I use the Sengoku Musuo/Samurai Warriors characters as the models for the characters I try to build using this class. http://www.samuraiwarriors4.eu/characters.html Putting aside the ones that have intentionally silly weapons or might be better classified...

D&D 5E (2014) Game design allow sub optimal class build. Confirmed by M Mearls

This is incredibly easy to do in 5e. Just make a dex based fighter that used rapier and shield, you don't need armor heavier than medium and will probably graduate to light once dexterity gets maxed out and still have the maximum possible AC. After that, just make sure your constitution is near...

D&D 5E (2014) Player Races in Upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters

In D&D, I feel we have seen how dragons behave though. They are not pack animals, when you find an encounter with a dragon you generally do not find yourself against a whole clan of them. From various ways Dragons have been used, it seems like that after the eggs are laid, maybe the dragon...

    The Samurai Is Back

Well, after your introduction that was all about sword, sword, sword-- I was going to point out that any humans from which the concept is derived used polearms and bows with equal or greater frequency than the oftenworshipped sword. But in the initial review of thewactual stats, I see little...
