D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

It's disappointing that we'll never get an expansion for BG3. I would have loved a higher level cap and more subclasses & races. In particular I really wanted an official playable Tabaxi. I'm sure someone will eventually make a mod for a Tabaxi, but I wonder how well it will integrate with...

D&D General Which D&D-related You Tube channels do you find worth watching? (+)

I second William SRD and Pointy Hat. Pointy Hat's main thing is giving a new and interesting twist on old ideas, monsters, and classes. He also gives out rules and art based on his ideas free of charge. I don't play 5th myself, so I can't say how good the rules implementation is, but his...

D&D General Bob World Builder Recreates WOTC's "Do You Like Me?" Survey!

I've got nothing better to do right now, so I took Bob's version of the survey. The results will probably be pretty predictable, but I'm still interested in hearing them. Here's my answers. 1- How do you feel about D&D - neutral This was the hardest question for me to answer. As a fan of...

D&D General The best representations of the power fantasies D&D has had

As a huge fan of 4th, I'd say most class concepts were done best in that edition. There are only two exceptions in my own opinion. Ranger - The Ranger has always been a bit murky on what the class fantasy actually is. As a result, every edition has taken it in different directions. When you...

D&D 4E Bridging the cognitive gap between how the game rules work and what they tell us about the setting

I can't really speculate about anyone else's feelings on this, but here's how it worked out for me. I always thought of hit points as an abstraction and never liked, or really understood, the meat argument. After being on this site for a while I have since understood the meat side, but will...

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

Like Zardnaar said on page 1 the economics encourage edition changes all on their own. There is another reason however that I believe substantial edition changes are necessary to D&D specifically. That reason is what I'd call the funnel. The thing that makes other rpgs that have a more...

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Using Purify Food and Drink to cure a party member?

I like Snarfs answer, but I do feel the need to come up with an in universe answer as well. It's just an interesting abstract problem. My take on this comes from how I view magic itself. Magic is basically wish fulfillment as a natural process. It's superimposing your will over the existing...

D&D 4E Like Some thoughts on my Wizard/Swordmage hybrid + a few questions.

Thanks for the advice. I double posted this to discord and got similar feedback. I'm not currently playing so I'm in no hurry to twique my build, but when I do there are a few ways I can take it. Just got to wait until I feel the need to break out my 4th books again, the feeling usually hits...

D&D 4E Like Some thoughts on my Wizard/Swordmage hybrid + a few questions.

I havent' had a chance to play 4E yet, but I do love making characters for it. This is a build that I've been tinkering with for years. I'd like a few eyes on it to make sure I'm not making any big mistakes, but my aim here isn't to be strictly optimal. I've also just started looking into...

    D&D 4E 4e ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Well, that kinda gets into the whole character concept as a whole. Probably more of a discussion for a dedicated thread. I've just signed up to discord and am looking at how it works. If I wanted to make a detailed post about my build with a couple of related questions, should I create a...

    D&D 4E 4e ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Thanks for the clarification and the invite. I was initially very confused to what I was missing about this ruling. So I re-read the rules for hybiding and the hybrid talent feat, still confused. Then I started looking up the rules for taking feats themselves and found what tripped me up...

    D&D 4E 4e ask a simple question, get a simple answer

I just decided to get the off-line 4E character builder and have immediately run into a problem. For some reason I can't seem to pick the Hybrid Talent feat a second time. The text clearly states it can be taken multiple times, and there aren't any additional prerequisites for taking it a...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

That's a great thing to slip in for people who don't know what it is. Just make sure none of your players are DQ fans. Because if they are everyone will try playing a high initiative, crit-fisher build and start creating... problems.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Oh man I feel this one. It's still not the worst overcomplicated rule I've come across. I vaguely remember the rules for a car crash in the World of Darkness book (don't know how this edition is referred, the one where the World of Darkness was an unique book that worked as a foundation of the...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E fans: what do you like about 4E?

1: Attacker always rolls - Out of all the things that we lost in 5th, this is the one that really angered me the most. I understand most of the other changes in 5th are a matter of personal opinion, so those I don't get mad at, but attackers always roll is just an objectively better way to do...

D&D 5E (2024) Poll: How many species should OneD&D include in its PHB?

13-15 sounds about right to me. That's enough to cover all the big concepts without overloading the PHB. My line up would be: Human - classic, has to be there Elf - classic, has to be there Dwarf - classic, has to be there Halfling - classic, has to be there Gnome - classic, has to be there...

    D&D 5E (2024) Pulse check on 1D&D excitement level

None of the options in the poll describe me so I'll just post my thoughts instead. I'm not interested in actually playing 5E, or a moderately revised 5.5, but I still think most of the revisions are in the right direction. So I'm meh, or low, in the sense of actually playing it, but mostly...

Beholders, Mind Flayers, and Strahd von Zarovich Released Into Creative Commons (Kinda)

God I hope so. I've got every finger crossed with that one. Public domain has been pushed back way too far already.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Holy crap, they actually caved. OGL 1.0a left intact and 5.1 SRD put under creative commons, which is not in Hasbro's control. This is probably the best possible outcome and I'm shocked it's apparently happening.
  20. R

Read the actual OGL document and take the survey when it comes out

Yeah, that's the important part to emphasize. Go ahead and fill out the survey if you want, but don't let that be the only engagement you have on the matter. It's very questionable whether Wizards actually care about the survey, so let them hear your dissatisfaction in as many different places...
