Systems You'd Never Play after Reading Them

Living Steel: I didn't run, but did play in a short campaign in the late 80's. Not even sure why our GM wanted to run it, she rarely strayed from D&D. We had fun playing with the power armor, but it isn't a game we ended up playing long term. It was very number crunchy, an aspect I actually...

    Origins Report: Huge, Friendly...and Penguins

It is hard to get a spot at Gen Con, but they now also run at Origins, Gamehole Con, and Pax South. We had open spots at Origins every day except maybe Saturday (but even Saturday you could probably find a single open slot, just not a spot for a group).

    Origins Report: Huge, Friendly...and Penguins

Don't forget True Dungeon! (Disclaimer: I volunteered with them for the first time and had a blast) There were a lot of die hard TD fans at Origins and TD took up all of Hall D.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Ultimate Kingdoms, Rocket Age, Fantastic Adventures, Quietus, and more

I use the ArcKnight spell effects in my 5e games and highly recommend them. $30 is an awesome deal.

D&D 3.x Jonathan Tweet: Prologue to Third Edition

I would be interested in hearing about the period between 3 and 3.5 There must have been some interesting discussions with only 3 years between them.

RPGA, Pathfinder Society and Adventurer's League - why are they all so terrible?

I am heavily involved in AL and also run 2 home games, they are radically different. I had to chuckle about your adventures being 'weird' comment. I couldn't agree more. Nothing annoys me more than some of the convoluted story arcs some designers put into a module. We have 4 hours to play an...

    Uneasy Partnerships

I imagine game stores are going to expand their income streams if they want to stay afloat. Essentially, they need to monetize play space/community. We have a local game store that seems to have a good model to monetize play space. Every $20 spent gets a play token. You could also just buy...

Games That Changed How We Play

"Diceless" is the better term. IIRC, that is how it was advertised "Diceless Roleplaying"/

    White Dwarf Reflections #3

Do you have a picture of the Tallyho Games Starship Troopers ad? I have my Avalon Hill Starship Troopers, but wasn't aware there was another game out there.

    Game Design Like a Boy Scout: Week 1 - What’s a Game?

We have been doing the same with our troop for about three years now. Always interesting to see what the boys come up with. Gaming and boy scouts go way back. My friends and I used to play D&D in our tents during campouts in the late 70's/early 80's.

    The Fortnite-ification of Everything

TSR was just poorly managed. At first, you had gamers who knew very little about business. Then, you had business people who knew very little about gaming. Neither worked well.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Arcana of the Ancients, Seas of Vodari, Ultraviolet Grasslands, Ultimate Sph

Interesting. I hadn't run into any KS funded conventions in the past. I have a friend who organizes a local con that is slowly growing. Will have to keep this model in mind for the future. Thanks for the info.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Arcana of the Ancients, Seas of Vodari, Ultraviolet Grasslands, Ultimate Sph

A Kickstarter for a convention badge? Does KS take a smaller cut than tabletop events or something? Or, maybe they are just going for some free advertising?

News Digest: Barrier Peaks for 5e, Labyrinth RPG Announced, Sneak Peak at Ghosts of Saltmarsh's Maps

The Wardling miniatures are awesome. Granted, they aren't your typical fantasy miniatures, but that is what makes them interesting. I have an armored corgi that always gets attention when I pull it out at a table.
