    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

I consider forcibly kidnapping people against their will and trapping them in rehab not a Good act personally. Do you typically roofie patients to coerce them to comply in rehab? I never said all use of Charisma was Good (tm). I said mind control isn't Good. Sure, lets say torture, slavery...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

So you have no problem with drugging people against their will to get your way? Sorry man, Enchantment is the creep school of magic. People should be angry if they realize they were charmed.

D&D 5E (2024) Doesn't Eldritch Knight's new War Magic seem to grant overpowered at-will damage?

EK's, paladins, etc get masteries too. There really needs to be martial equivalents of booming blade, GFB etc for parity. Particularly with bladelocks getting 3 attacks at 11th. Off the cuff, something like Skirmishing Strike - Attack a number of targets equal to your proficiency mod, if your...

D&D 5E (2024) Doesn't Eldritch Knight's new War Magic seem to grant overpowered at-will damage?

They should have had at-will weapon maneuvers on par with weapon cantrips, and let all fighters make a maneuver and a basic attack at 5th level. It would give more oomph to the fighter who otherwise is making the same number of attacks as the spellcasters.

D&D 5E (2024) Does WotC view the Monk class as overtuned from their perspective?

Multiclassing is an optional rule, and expressly isn't balanced. It's like rolling for stats. You don't get to throw balance out the window then complain about balance. No need to hold the monk back because a broken mechanic might make it broken. It certainly isn't applying to warlocks.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

Enchantment doesn't grant those though, nor should it. It manipulates the thoughts and emotions of others. I think Bless and Heroism are the only self target spells in the school, (and feel like a bit of a stretch).

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

The problem isn't the check, its roofieing the person beforehand. Like... it's not a good guy move to magically drug people to get them to bend to your will.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

When you resort to a "the ends justify the means" line of thought, the ends aren't good.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

That would be transmutation, ala Eagle's Splendor (a 2nd level concentration spell). Friends is just in a weird zone, because WOTC is reluctant to implement anything more granular than advantage/disadvantage, which is already (IMO too) easy to get via the Help action. Friends doesn't DO a lot...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

That would be divination though (which I'd be fine with). Lets face it. Mind control isn't the domain of good people. Friends usurps someone's will to make them like you, much like getting someone drunk to impair their decision making. It SHOULD tick people off, and enchantment in general...

D&D 5E (2024) What should be ability score cap for standard PCs?

Do like PF2E. Uncouple feats from stat bumps, so you get both. No cap, but stat bumps under 18 give a +2, and 18+ give a +1.

D&D 5E (2024) Human Resourceful needs to be beefier − compare the Lucky feat

Inspiration needs to just be a reroll. Really, all of these "before you know the outcome" timing things need to be rerolls after you know the result, and if they need to be adjusted in frequency do it. It's irritating to run/play, and it's how everyone I've discussed it with thinks they should...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8: Cantrips

I haven't seen anyone else support you on this. This isn't Pathfinder 2E with its adjust grip action. I have seen a number of Eldritch knights and never seen a DM require them to keep a free hand either. This level of fretting over hand waving is hand waived at all tables I've seen.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is Magical Cunning enough? (Warlock P7)

Make short rests 5-10 minutes, limit to benefitting twice per long rest. Limit long rests to 1-2 then require downtime. This really shouldn't be that hard WOTC...

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

Do you own the game? You seem really caught up on optional boobs and a crude joke here and there, when that is hardly representative of the entire story.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

It's a bugbear. The real humor is everyone else has a horrified face, except Astarion. Image below is sfw, just spoilered for size.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

You are 100% right, and I got sidetracked. Movement definitely matters more in BG due to the granularity. It also reminds me that I need to remember to use more difficult terrain.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

    1) In my experience, most people play in TOTM or use a grid. It's going to be rare that movement is that granular. 2) Rests are entirely campaign dependent though. One hour is a LONG time when you're in a dungeon/enemy territory, and meaningless when you're in a wilderness being pulled in a...

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

I've been really enjoying the changes, and will be adding some to my game, particularly the weapons to spice up combat. But something I wanted to highlight was how it basically treats class/background as a proficiency. A wizard would get their proficiency bonus to identify a wizard spell...
