D&D 5E (2024) How to balance the shield spell?

The AC shouldn't scale though. That's the entire point of bounded accuracy. The +5 AC is so good that it may as well make you immune to attacks for a round, with a resource that is largely inconsequential. It's not like a 1st level magic missile has relevance later on, but AC buffs/penalties...

D&D 5E (2024) Moon druid with weapons mastery?

Druids should have been nerfed to half casters if they're going to keep powerful shape shifting. As is, it's too much in one class, and just hearkens back to CODzilla days. No thanks. I don't think they should get ANY wild shape outside of spell slot expenditure to distinct forms.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Because if you don't want to do fantastic abilities you can simply not use them, whereas the people who want fantastic abilities can't get them otherwise. "I don't want steak so no one can have steak" vs "I want steak on the menu". Why does everything fantastic have to be a spell? Dragonborn...

    D&D 5E (2024) How should a Summoner/Pet Class be implemented in 1DnD?

Oh sure, I just think the summoner should get stuff to do other than pass their action/butter.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Maybe it's time to design classes for the people who want to play them, rather than letting the person who isn't playing the character dictate what they think someone else's character should do? It's a game of heroic make believe that you guys decide should only cater to one type of power...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

That sounds appropriate for 7th level, not 17th level. I want high level thieves to steal someone's identity and memories, or be able to jump through shadows, not just have slightly bigger numbers on stealth. I'd prefer some unique abilities from 9+ similar to invocations which include mythic...

D&D 5E (2024) How to fix Necromancer wizard so it does not clog down initiative and time with 10+ Animate dead undead walking around?

Yep, PF2E uses troops, which is a far better format for keeping mooks relevant than tracking 20 different orc's hit points.

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

Because I can't fathom a logical objection to having someone motivate another person to push past the pain or fight on despite being exhausted or hurt. Have you never had a coach, trainer, or even seen physical therapy? If it's all just bumps and nicks, the only reason is some arbitrary divide...

    D&D 5E (2024) How should a Summoner/Pet Class be implemented in 1DnD?

If the summoner's only purpose is to give commands, I think I'd rather just cut out the middleman and play the summoned creature. "Dragon" sounds more fun than "guy who only talks to the dragon".

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

Like the healer feat? Or resting 8 hours? If you're describing HP as serious injuries, that's on you. Damage is nothing a good night's sleep won't fix.

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

Lack of easy access to magic items, including potions, talismans with "spell in a can" etc, have deepened the martial/caster divide, because now it either comes from your class, or you may as well not have it. Martials are expected to have magic weapons/items, otherwise they suffer...

    D&D 5E (2024) How should a Summoner/Pet Class be implemented in 1DnD?

I vote for half caster, with something like Summon Beast" given a duration of 24 hours and castable as a ritual, with concentration for the first summon removed. http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:summon-beast Add something akin to invocations where they add ala carte options for players to...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Overly Complex

Maybe we shouldn't design the game for those not even interested in how the basics work? Or at least not shackle one of the iconic classes to the lowest common denominator? Make simple classes for each group: Warrior, Priest, Mage, and Expert. All at-will abilities, no spell slots, no rest-based...

D&D 5E (2024) What spells should be dropped?

Isn't it once per short rest now?

D&D 5E (2024) What spells should be dropped?

I'm normally in the "gut all spellcaster's power" camp, but even I don't want to go back to casters tossing darts or pinging with crossbows!

    D&D 5E (2024) How to (simply) balance half-casters in 1D&D.

They kind of aren't though. Rangers get dookie damage spells like Hail of Thorns, Lighting Arrow, Cordon of Arrows, etc that aren't worth the slots or action to cast. Same issue with the paladin's smite spells. They balance them against a full caster's spells, ignoring the fact that by the time...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock cantrips

If they're common, then adding +1 at 5, +2 at 11, and +3 at 17 isn't an issue. Its not like they stack. It also makes them at least on par with Eldritch Blast, rather than having the already sub-par option be at the mercy of the DM to patch it. Too much of 5E is "lol, DM you make it work...

D&D 5E (2024) What spells should be dropped?

The number is such that virtually nothing will detect them at that point. Why bother pretending the roll is relevant?
