    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

My Warlock Swashbuckler was started at 6th level, so I didn't have to worry about building it much. I recommend Booming blade, as it is amazing for Bladelocks, if you land the hits. I wouldn't risk it on high AC targets, as multiple hits gives you a better chance to sneak attack, but lower...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

Cocky in battle sounds like a life of fighting. Maybe she did a lot of Melee work (The old medieval Melee, meaning a bunch of people thrown into a ring and fighting in a massive free-for-all). Perhaps she was a pit fighter of some sort? Maybe she was just a damn good pick-pocket, and knew just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

Well, nothing wrong wit having a skill that lets you bail as a backup. Now that you have me thinking about it, I actually think Swashbuckler can work pretty well with a ranged character, with the right set up. A hand-crossbow as a weapon, and a rapier for if an enemy closes the distance. Hit...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

Sounds like he didn't know what he wanted at 3rd level and made the wrong choice. He might appreciate getting to choose a different subclass, if you allow that sort of thing. Only subclass though, I wouldn't let him change anything else.

    D&D 5E (2014) A few questions regarding sun blades

    1) Yes, it can be two-handed 2) No, because the bonus damage is part of the spell, not caused by your swinging power. 3) correct, the Sunblade is undeniably Magic. I would also rule that Sunblade, being Rare, is more powerful than a 2nd level spell, and is immune to Darkness extinguishing it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewed Weapon help

Sounds good to me. If it seems a bit broken that way, make it a full action, that way he can still adapt to the battle, but has to make more of a decision on if he should switch to a better weapon, or remain as he is to avoid losing out a round of damage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Adventuring Party Names

I would agree, so long as you were to limit the recommendation to D&D players above a certain age. Rat Queens isn't exactly Percy Jackson...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

It doesn't require that the last attack of your turn be a melee attack, just that you made a melee attack against that creature. Melee attack enemy (Qualify for fancy footwork) Walk away Fire crossbow as offhand attack. OR Melee attack (qualify for fancy footwork) Crossbow attack (No...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

The rogue can attack with a bonus action, that is kind of the point of dual wielding. 2 attacks (1d8+dex + 1d8) will be usually turn out with more damage than 1d8+dex+1.

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

The AC boost might be nice, depending on the kind of Swashbuckler you plan on playing. I am playing a Swashbuckler 3/Bladelock 3 in a featless game, and have not found the lack of heavier weapons to be a problem. Defensive Duelist could be good too, allowing you to get an even larger AC boost...

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewed Weapon help

I would make it both. You throw an enemy 15 feet, and they land prone. This would allow the Barb to knock an enemy out of movement range, and pull back just a tiny bit, forcing the enemy to waste a turn or dash. Think Sauron from the battle scene in Lord of the Rings if you have seen it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Illithid PC

My theory is that he is trying to see if it is actually possible to get banned from the forums. No other logical reason for behavior like that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Homebrew changes

Alright, I think this is worked out well enough to playtest, here is the breakdown. Altogether, I like how it feels. General Changes All Patron abilities are changed into Invocations, which can be taken at the same appropriate level, and only if you have the correct Patron. Warlocks are able...

D&D 5E (2014) Items that scale with level, discussion

That is one way to do it, and essentially what I am working on right now for the player I mentioned in the OP. A sentient weapon could be an interesting thing, with a little meter of "hate"-to-"Love", to decide which abilities the player gets as they progress. However, for the purposes of a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Looking for Feedback for a Possible D&D House Rule

Another thought I just considered. The idea of someone dual wielding rapiers looks pretty silly in my mind, so you might try to find something other than making the Dual-wieldable. Maybe some sort of Crit effect? Max Weapon damage on a crit might work out. Only weapon, so you don't max Smites...

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

This reminds me of my chaotic system I was trying to work out something like a year ago. Everyone rolls initiative at the start of combat, as normal, but whatever order they go in the initiative starts at 0. Then various actions add to their initiative as they progress, meaning that someone...

    D&D 5E (2014) Looking for Feedback for a Possible D&D House Rule

I am finding that it is really hard to push outside of 5Es balance area. The more I throw at it, the more I find that it is still pretty easy to make functional, as long as I stick to a few base rules that tie to whatever I am playing with. In your case, the base rules would simply be the dice...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Adventuring Party Names

My players have not gotten far enough along to actually name any of their teams. However, I do have an NPC adventuring party in my world named The Miniatures ("We deal with things bigger than us every day."), entirely made up of small sized creatures.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Homebrew changes

Another thought, what about creatures that willingly submit themselves to a contract to be chained? Is it enough of a bonus that I simply remove the requirement to roll against them (while keeping the CR restriction)? That way, if you can convince a Dragon to submit itself to you (don't ask me...

I like mint, but have not tried pine. I imagine it is something of a bitter taste?
