D&D 5E (2014) What makes a "full" spellcaster? [Warlock discussion]

That still leaves the question though. What makes you think that the Chain Pact was not intended to have access to Eldritch Blast? I think they would have made it a Tome-specific feature, or Invocation, if it was intended only for Tome. I think it is more likely that EB held an important place...

D&D 5E (2014) What makes a "full" spellcaster? [Warlock discussion]

I agree that the Warlock is not the Wizard, that is one of the best things about it. The different restrictions makes them noticeably different classes, otherwise the Warlock would look just like the Sorcerer, a Wizard with a much smaller spell list. They are meant to be restricted to balance...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making 5E a short rest game

The main thing I liked in my short experience with 4E is that short rests recharged enough that you could go into every fight as a serious fight, but not so much that you never needed a long rest. I don't think I will see much use of Hit dice, if I have a Healing focused caster in the group...

D&D 5E (2014) What makes a "full" spellcaster? [Warlock discussion]

Yes, you pick a spell when you gain the Arcanum, and stick with that. Personally, I would allow it to be changed like any other Warlock spell.

    D&D 5E (2014) Making 5E a short rest game

I want to let you all know I did actually read and consider your suggestions, but was also working on stuff on my own. For those I have not responded to, in regards to flipping the slots to short rest at next stage, That system feels a bit fiddly to keep track of, and much more complicated to...

D&D 5E (2014) Frog God Games twitch channel just came online

Awesome. A twitch playtest could be interesting, and could certainly hit a large number of people. More importantly, if it gets onto something like the Front Page, it could even pull new people into the hobby.

    D&D 5E (2014) Conjurer Confusion

Familiar can cast your spells that have a range of "Touch", allowing you to play support. It can also be used for scouting. Both of those leave your familiar very open to being killed, since most familiar forms have about 5-10 HP. The 30 temps will help a lot on that front. Also, no. I just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Conjurer Confusion

They get Familiars through Find Familiar, Conjure Minor Elementals at 7th level, Conjure elemental at 9th level, and Create Undead at 10th level. Sounds like a good number of monsters to me.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about shield proficiency

Multiclassing into Barbarian, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Paladin, or Ranger will give Shield Proficiency (PHB 164). Also the Moderately Armored feat (PHB 168) gives Medium armor and Shields.

    D&D 5E (2014) Best designed classes in 5e

Warlock, Monk, and Rogue IMO. The only issue I can find with the Warlock is the fact that Eldritch Blast exists, and somehow people want it to be ingrained in the class, to force everyone to use it. Also, working on a homebrew to make Pacts more of the Subclass, and Patrons only show through in...

    D&D 5E (2014) As a DM, can I just say, Screw Paladins :)

Just put more difficult terrain in his path, that'll slow him down plenty. Beyond that, I'm not sure he can be stopped.

    D&D 5E (2014) "Can't become lost..."

Man, I never knew that not getting lost meant you automatically get where you are going. For me, "You cannot get lost" means that if you want to backtrack you can, rather than wandering the woods for days on end. It doesn't give any sort of bonus towards reaching your destination, unless that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dying House Rule

Of course, I also want people to poke holes in my house rules. However, I generally want them to have some of their own ideas. Not very fun to go into your houserule thread and just find a lot of posts saying "That sucks, just play it RAW.". That is where putting yourself in the OPs shoes comes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Analyzing Bless

Yes, and as Zard is saying, if 3rd level spells are the Comparison Bar for it to stop being OP, that is a dang good 1st level spell. Few other 1st level spells can boast to be as good as a 3rd level, because they are specifically designed to not be that good. Otherwise, they would be 3rd level...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dying House Rule

No, my point is that the particular issue you are pointing out (Players being mad that they have to sit there and do nothing) probably isn't an issue when the OP is playing with a group of players that think the same way he/she does. There are still plenty of points of discussion, like how you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Improvised actions in combat

I don't have a Rule of Yes, and tend to arrive at a ruling to stick with. After all, there won't always be a rug to throw, or a building to leap off of. Even if there is a building or tree, the PC is sacrificing HP whenever they pull the trick, so I don't have much of an issue with them doing it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Improvised actions in combat

I apologize if you took what I said as a slight towards your games, I meant a very specific form of 'Fantastical', the kind that you see in the given examples. A world where the acrobatic hero thinks on his toes, using his environment to the greatest effect. The kind of world where diving off a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Improvised actions in combat

Everyone wants to be Jack Sparrow, or Aladdin, or Sinbad, and I am fine with that. I hate a game where the players just want to stand in one spot and hammer away at the bad guys. The only way that this sort of thing is 'lame' is if you are trying to run a particular style of game, serious and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Improvised actions in combat

Yep, pretty much my view, though that is more of a Tavern Brawler type thing. I assumed that this discussion was for things like leaping off of buildings to add falling damage to attacks, or trying to trip someone into a fire place, or throwing a rug over someone to block their vision.
