Satyr - An excuse for rape, or an interesting creature?

Many people consider rape to be more invasive than death. Death is permanent (at least in real life), while rape is something someone has to endure and then live with for years afterwards.

Satyr - An excuse for rape, or an interesting creature?

As has been mentioned, D&D creatures are not the equivalent of their mythological counterparts. If they were, kobolds would be mischevious house gnomes and bodaks would come down the chimney and steal children away in the night. The D&D satyr can have a basis in the mythological creature...

another WotC article: How to add (X) to Forgotten Realms

Wow...are the Realms really not selling well? Or is this another online rumor, like the inevitability of 4th edition coming next year (even though it didn't come this year, or last year, or the year before that)? The Realms have been around as a setting for 20 years now. Seems a shame to cancel...

    Published or homemade adventures?

I use published adventures a fair amount of time. In my experience, they usually end up being home-made adventures in the end, since I end up revising them heavily to tailor them to my own campaign.

D&D 4E What would you want to see in 4E?

-Some of the redundant skills grouped together (listen/search/spot moved to perception, hide/move silently moved to stealth, et cetera) -Less of a reliance on magical items for the PCs to get by -Attacks of opportunity cleaned up and made more reliant on common sense -Giant-sized creatures...

Expedition To.... / Which Expedition do you want to see next?

Expedition to Io's Blood Isles Expedition to Dungeonland Expedition to Thunder Rift Yeah, I was a child of the 90s. So sue me.

What is the best "generic" setting?

I was always pretty keen on the way Mystara was set up, with the Gazetteers. Any one of those manuals gave a complete campaign area, and they could be combined or altered as needed. I'm not so keen on what eventually happened to Mystara, though. (Wrath of the Immortals, followed by the dumbed...

Rant: Why must thing always be obvious in D&D?

Honestly, this whole thing sounds like a player/DM problem, not a problem of the game itself.

How Detailed Would Your Ideal Published Campaign Setting Be?

Personally, I liked how Mystara was handled with the Gazetteers. If the Thunder Rift setting had some better editing, it would also have been an excellent example of the sort of setting book I like.

    Hand Picked or Happened By?

Hand-picked usually, but sometimes they just happen by. I'd say about 70% of the former and 30% of the latter in my campaigns.

    Memorable Phrases uttered by PCs

I prefer to provide my quotes without context: "You now have a bottle of blood." "Correction: a bottle of ink." "What's your status?" "Single and hung. Yours?" "My libido stinks of blood." "If you love him, you will freeze him." Also, while not a character quote, there was one point when I...

    The C&C poll

I'm curious about C&C, but not curious enough to buy the books. I've flipped through the condensed version and the quick-play rules, and it seems like a decent system. The sticking point, for me, is that the draw of the game seems to assume that I play D&D differently than I do. Since I play...

Can't have enough Haley coolness, IMO.

Homebrewers: How Publishable is Your Brew?

Mine is published...sort of. It's been used in the fantasy novel in my sig. It could certainly serve as a published setting, but I don't see why it would be. It doesn't exactly have a big hook to make it different from, say the Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk. The main draw is the characters, which...

Your thoughts on Adventures for 3rd Ed

I've run four of the Eberron adventures (Shadows of the Last War, Whispers of the Vampire's Blade, Grasp of the Emerald Claw, and Voyage of the Golden Dragon), adapted for my homebrew setting, with a good deal of success. The action in some of them is repetitive, and the NPCs are too cloak and...

Spellless paladins and rangers. Bonus feats worth giving up spellcasting?

I thought Complete Warrior already gave an option of spell-less paladins and rangers. Did WotC decide that their old system didn't work, or is this new stuff just another option?

3 book models vs. 1 book models.

Personally, I like the Rules Cyclopedia model of doing things. One book with all the essential rules, but also with plenty of room for expansion. If you had a Rules Cyclopedia, there was still room for more fleshing out of the system. The Gazetteers, boxed sets, Monster & Treasure Assortment...

    Vecna: demigod, god, or lich?

Out of curiosity, what are the other body parts listed in Die Venca Die? Also, does Die Vecna Die really mean The Vecna, The?

Perennial campaign worlds vs. one-shot campaign worlds

For D&D, I prefer ongoing campaign settings. For other games, I tend to do one-shots, but with a bit of ongoing mixed in. After a one-shot is over, I save the character sheets and relevant notes about the adventure. At some point down the line, I sometimes run other one-shots in the same...

    What alignment is House?

Foreman changed quite a bit between season 2 and season 3, largely due to his near-death experience. He might have been evil before, but has experienced quite a shift since, to the point where his newfound morals have lessened his ability as a doctor.
