    Amazon Shipping

I just got an email from Amazon.com that says the book will ship a week and a half sooner than they had previously told me (arriving August 27-28 instead of September 11-12). So I've got no idea what's actually going on.

    4 new "base" classes?

Not that I'm necessarily the target audience for these things, but an open playtest also makes for some good marketing from my point of view. I have very little interest in new rules supplements, but having it available for playtesting will get me to at least look at the content and may end up...

D&D 3.x A list of 3e problems and how they were tackled in PF

Some useful tables designed to come up with quick ability scores and skill assignments, a list of sample feat packages based on character type, and a breakdown of magical treasure purchases into categories of weapons, protection, magic, limited use, and gear help speed things up and clarify them...

    A successful "Realms-Shaking-Event"?

What major realms-shaking events have D&D settings seen? -Dark Sun had the Prism Pentad series. -Dragonlance has had its cataclysms. -The Realms had the Time of Troubles and the Spellplague. -Greyhawk had the Greyhawk Wars. -Mystara had the Wrath of the Immortals. -Planescape had the Faction...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks Part 2 (New thread)

It's kind of weak as a preview, but considering that the book is officially out today, I don't think a detailed preview was really necessary in this case. As for the house ruling bit, it's not as obvious as one might think. As should be very obvious from a quick look online, a lot of people...

    Pathfinder 1E [Pathfinder]Bestiary Preview

Having icons for each monster is pretty cool. It will take a while for me to get used to it, but it should be a good reference tool eventually. I was hoping for more flavor text per monster, but I guess that would be impossible without drastically reducing the number of creatures in the book.

Pathfinder 1E [Pathfinder] Well done, Paizo! (Pathfinder RPG)

Care to provide a spoiler about characters above 20th level? Is it like the epic level guidelines from the 3.5 DM's Guide?

Pathfinder 1E [Pathfinder] Planning on switching to Pathfinder?

I intend to finish out my 3rd edition campaign and then start my next campaign using the new Pathfinder rules.

How many folks are still playing/running 3e?

Still playing 3.5. The system is the three core books and a few house rules. I'm also using the Night Below boxed set from 2nd edition, adapting that on the fly to 3.5. The current plan is to switch over to Pathfinder at the start of my next campaign, but that might be a year or more from now.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks Part 2 (New thread)

Unless it's changed from the Beta, the Heal skill can be used to heal hit point damage now (1hp per character level once a day, more with a higher check). I've snagged that rule for my 3.5 game and it is definitely a reason to invest some ranks in that skill.

Kindle - Amazon Remote Deletion of E-Books

While I think Amazon is jerks for how it deals with Kindle deletions, I think the article pasted has the major flaw of assuming that no hard copies of books, movies, et cetera will exist twenty years from now.

    Big Dark Sun hint

Within a year of the setting's release, the Prism Pentad series was written. This series killed off multiple sorcerer kings, killed the Dragon of Tyr (whose named turned out to be Borys, by the way), freed a city-state, and added a ridiculous back story to the setting. The latter wouldn't be so...

    Easy-Go Classes for Beginners?

That has been one of the barriers preventing me from getting terribly interested in the current rules. 4th edition would really benefit from an intro class, but I don't see that happening due to the way the powers are structured.

    Updated Settings: Advance or Reimagine?

I think that Greyhawk and other settings suffered not from an advancing timeline, but from poor products. While the 2nd edition area had a lot of gems to it, it also had a lot of garbage. In Greyhawk's case specifically, the powers that be practically made destroying the setting a priority. A...

How did initiative rules make casters stronger in 3E?

2nd edition and earlier has longer casting times for higehr level spells, and spellcasters lost their spell if they took any damage prior to casting. Not only did 3rd edition change that by removing initiative modifiers for spells, but it also added the Concentration skill and defensive casting...

another rpg industry doomsday article (merged: all 3 "Mishler Rant" threads)

For what it's worth, Stephen King talked at my university some years back and was asked something along these lines. His only answer was that if he were to stop writing entirely, he would still be pulling in about $50 million a year.

    Updated Settings: Advance or Reimagine?

I think it should depend on the setting. Dark Sun, Greyhawk, and Eberron strike me as settings that don't need to be continually advancing. On the other hand, a large part of the appeal of the Forgotten Realms is the ever-changing world. I think WotC had a decent balance in 3rd edition when...

D&D 4E How Does Pathfinder handle my 4e wishlist?

All skills cost 1 point, with the cap being your level. Class skills give a +3 bonus if you have purchased the appropriate skill In addition to the consolidated skill list already mentioned, a character can also select his favored class and get +1 skill point (or +1 hit point, if he has...

Successful DM NPCs: fact or fiction?

Many of the high-level NPCs in my setting are old PCs previously played by either me or other players. I've had powerful NPCs hand quests down, show up to save the day, and even adventure with the PCs. I can't recall ever having a problem with any of that killing the story, and I think there are...

Future Eberron - Post apoc world

Seeing that Eberron has a post World War II vibe to it, I would probably look at science fiction and pulp cinema/literature from that era that depicted everyone's greatest fears about the Cold War. There are some interesting apocalypse stories that emerged in the 50s and 60s due to the fear of...
