It depends on whether the PCs had a reason to suspect that something was up. My group was attacked by a dozen goblin assassins at night once, but we knew there were assassins about so we kept watch - even though we were spending the night in a palace. I don't think we took any damage at all. :)...

Next time, check out the list of WotC monsters before your brain crashes! The crimson death is in MM2. CR 11, so for a 1st-level party that's, um, oodles of XP. Minus 10% for not giving the DM a double share of the cheetos.

No, the ones in the supermarket are jujube zombies which are quite different. There's a 3.0 juju zombie template here: http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/template/juju_zombie.htm and there's a 3.5 template in Necromancer's revised Tome of Horrors.

Both. During combat, the minis indicate the characters' positions as precisely as the rules require, i.e. each character is in a particular 5' square. Outside of combat, not so much. For example we'll shove all the miniatures into a room without worrying about exact placement. The rogue's...

I recommend ranking the players in this order and going down the list until the table is full: 1. Stewardesses. 2. People who have paid substantial bribes. 3. People you like, most to least.

"Transdimensional Spell" is a feat in Complete Arcane. Sorry I don't have the book myself so I can't tell you exactly what it does.

We didn't have any of that stuff, just a cleric. That's why I asked about cleric spells specifically - it seems there were none at that time. For a later trip to the Mournlands we got a magic item that cast rope trick (I think it was a wand we had to use via UMD). I hate the Mournlands.

We did that too. But . Would have been a TPK if the DM hadn't found an excuse to keep us alive. (We had no goodberries. What cleric healing spells work there?)

You were able to recover hit points while you were in the Mournlands? No wonder it was easy for you. :\

We had the same conversation in one of our games. :)

The way we figured it out was to have our characters jump onto one as we were fleeing the bad guys. Then the DM had to figure out how they work PDQ. :p

Shadowdancer is good at that.
