Divine Challenge: Switching targets means you don't have to engage?

Right. In this analogy, "Engage Box 1" involves removing a pebble. So my choice is to either Engage Box 1 or Open Box 2. No problem - I open Box 2. But opening Box 2 presents me with a new pair of choices - I can either Engage Box 2, or Open Box 3 (or Box 1 again). And I must do one of...

Divine Challenge: Switching targets means you don't have to engage?

I guess once he's your target, he's someone you challenged in the past, even if it's still the same round :) -Hyp.

Divine Challenge: Switching targets means you don't have to engage?

I think the problem I have with that reading is with the definition of "a different target". I read that as "a target other than the current target of the Divine Challenge". So when you challenge target 2, the requirement becomes "challenge a target other than target 2"... which you haven't...

Divine Challenge: Switching targets means you don't have to engage?

Exactly right. And the Paladin doesn't need to engage monster 1 to avoid the DC penalties in round 2 from his first use of Divine Challenge, because he satisfied the requirements of that use of DC by challenging monster 2. -Hyp.

Divine Challenge: Switching targets means you don't have to engage?

"The target remains marked until you use this power against another target, or if you fail to engage the target." -Hyp.

Divine Challenge: Switching targets means you don't have to engage?

Let's say I have three boxes full of pebbles, and a key. The rules: If a box is open at the end of a round, and I have not taken a pebble out of it that round, it will explode. I can only close a box by removing the key and opening another box. I can only open one box in any given round...

In what situations can one NOT use a power?

Our Warlord often uses a basic attack when a/ there's nobody who can benefit from Wolf Pack Tactics, and b/ he wants to deal more than the fixed damage of Furious Smash. -Hyp.

    Effects and conditions stack

Has this been clarified somewhere? PHB p278 says "You make a separate saving throw against each damage type"; 10 ongoing acid and 5 ongoing acid are the same type, so according to that you make a saving throw... not two saving throws. -Hyp.

    Readied actions interrupting charges

Do you have a link for that? It's not in the PHB FAQ here, and it runs opposite to my understanding based on PHB p269: 1, choose an attack; 2, choose targets; 3, make attack rolls. I've always read Twin Strike as "Choose both targets, then roll"; to shoot one, then reevaluate before the second...

Readied actions triggering off of things that happen in the middle of an action

Remember, though, that in terms of immediate reactions, "the triggering action" doesn't necessarily refer to a free/move/standard/whatever action. It's a more generic use of 'action' which can refer to a component of a [technical] action. "An immediate reaction might interrupt other actions a...

    What is considered a Hit?

Bear in mind that if you read the thread (it's only 19 pages!), there's also a response from someone on the Design Team declaring that bonuses do apply to secondary damage. -Hyp.

    Melee and Close Burst

So are you saying that an Ironskin Belt (Gain resist 5 to all weapon damage until the end of your next turn) won't be of any help against Furious Smash, the secondary attack from All Bets Are Off, or the damage on a miss from Hammer Rhythm? Furious Smash and ABAO both have the [Weapon] keyword...

    Clarification: Surprise Rounds

I can think of several ways. 1. Surprise Round begins with the Paladin adjacent to an enemy. 2. Surprise Round begins. Unsurprised enemy charges paladin or moves adjacent. Unsurprised paladin challenges enemy. 3. I2K's scenario, where another PC grants the Paladin movement somehow to end up...

    Clarification: Surprise Rounds

Interesting - it looks like nobody can take immediate or opportunity actions during the surprise round, either. Even if they aren't surprised. It also puts certain limits on some powers in the surprise round. For example, a Paladin can't use Divine Challenge, since "You can use divine...

    What is considered a Hit?

I'm saying that "hitting a man with a baseball bat" might be a mechanical Hit, a mechanical Miss, a mechanical Effect, or even something else. A hit doesn't require a Hit. Any of which I'd accept as the cinematic description of a Hit, BTW :) There's also "I'll give you this lovely baseball...
