    D&D and the rising pandemic

Ooh, an opportunity to discuss politics! I'll content myself with the observation that US schools are among the most highly-funded in the world - but every dollar of school tax goes through many hoops and siphons before some pennies and nickles reach the classroom.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

You seem to think that property taxes stop coming when the mortgage is paid off? I do not understand something in your background assumptions.

    D&D 5E (2014) Good low-level dungeons?

The Caves of Chaos (in Keep on the Borderlands) can be spread over a few hills instead of down a ravine and get manageable chunks for various levels.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I like the policy that 'the taxable value of your house is the price you bought it for'. Because in Indiana, after the voters put a property tax rate cap into the State Constitution, assessed property values started climbing - just about as fast as the rates had used to be rising.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Depends on where in the US you look. California's permitting process has been made into a bundle of red tape and fees and delays. Indiana in contrast a developer can pretty much buy the next farm along a road into town, plat it as a subdivision, get the permitting OK, and start building (big...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I don't tan, or there is a very short window during which I am tan. I just burn. The first tickle / itch I feel, it's already too late.

    D&D 5E (2014) Cloud kingdoms....brainstorming

If the cloud-dwellers can steer around at will, not just blow on the wind, they can move rain to where it is wanted - or withhold rain from an area until it becomes a sun-baked Dust Bowl. A powerful threat, usually held in the background, for diplomatic / commercial negotiations. Some spells -...

D&D General In defence of Grognardism

After looking at some Xeroxes I think are from the 3e DMG 2... -President Reagan begins casting a verbal-only incantation / ritual, with a time-delay factor built in- "Mr Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall !" -Five years later, Concrete to Mud and Knock take effect-

D&D General In defence of Grognardism

One of the classic "the problem with Grognards" complaints is the notion that we expect subservient behavior from everybody else. We don't. We expect you to pick up the game and have fun !

    D&D 5E (2014) Cloud kingdoms....brainstorming

Larry Niven's novels The Integral Trees and The Smoke Ring may prove fruitful for inspiration. edit: DannyAlcatraz beat me to one of the novels.

D&D General In defence of Grognardism

If it wasn't for we Grognards, all you folks who first discovered D&D since the mid-80's would not have had that opportunity.

Encounter idea for Star Trek, Traveller, or any space or horror rpg - Apollo 11 ascent stage

Hopelessly obsolete but still-functional equipment. Indiana Jones meets the 20th Century AD, instead of the 20th Century BC. His patron is a private antiquities collector or the Smithsonian Museum.

    D&D 5E (2014) Domain of Dread: Grognardia

IIRC*, that would be a 13th-level Fighter? "Don't you remember when I finally trained those men to work together? Their combat prowess was a thing to behold !" * I may not recall correctly.

D&D 5E (2014) Magical Metals and Alloys: We Need More

For Gamma World I created a tree that absorbs ambient radioactivity and stores it in its core. When there is enough, it triggers a pseudo-nuclear reaction and blows the tree's seeds all over the landscape. This is not the problem it sounds like because areas radioactive enough for the tree to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Kids playing dnd?

"Find Pet" Then you have to explain why you get spiders, snakes, frogs, rats, and similar icky animals instead of cats, dogs, hamsters, or goldfish. Hunger of Hadar --> Floor Full of Octopus Tentacles Witch Bolt --> Lesser Lightning Bolt For my 4e Star Pact Warlock, I re-wrote the fluff text...

D&D 5E (2014) Running Rime of the Frost Maiden

The PCs stole the one-and-only book that describes Auril's current Big Project and how to mess it up? I think she will come after them for vengeance and to get it back for "safekeeping". Set the battle in some evocative Frozen Tundra terrain (3e supplement Frostburn has ideas) under the...

D&D General Poll: Should a poster be expected to read (or at least skim) all posts before posting in a thread?

There is a real-time example of the "Should I read the thread?" phenomenon happening in the "D&D Beyond cancels art contest" thread. Read that OP and take your guess at what the problem is. Then get into the body of the thread and see if you were right. (I was not.)
