    Musing of an Epic Virgin

If you want to do an approximation on the fly, do this: (1) increase the die type by one. If the die type is d12, add 2 points to the bonus for every die rolled. (2) add an additional 50% of the bonus, rounded down. This comes close as long as the bonus isn't huge compared to the die...

Pathfinder 1E Elephant in the room/thread Forked Thread: Pathfinder - sell me

That may very well be. This has nothing to do with their APs. This is about expanding and taking money that is very likely there to be taken. I don't buy that 4e doesn't allow them to tell the stories they want. It's an acceptable public excuse and nothing more. Companies that leave money...

Pathfinder 1E Elephant in the room/thread Forked Thread: Pathfinder - sell me

With all due respect- and speaking as a huge fan of 4e who may not even buy the PFRPG- you have at least the first one wrong. Paizo had no choice in the matter- they literally couldn't convert to 4e, because WotC didn't have the GSL to give to them (or they were withholding it, for the more...

    Poll - I'm over 25 and I've read....

No way to edit polls, I'm afraid. Yeah, missed quite a few- I just picked up the names mentioned by posters in the pre-25 poll and added a few off the top of my head. c'est la vie

    Poll - I'm over 25 and I've read....

No one mentioned her in the previous thread, and I just plain forgot her and a few others- Richard Knaak, for example.

    Poll - I'm over 25 and I've read....

He was on my first list and I forgot to paste his name in- yeah, I've read several of his. I have Troy: Shield of Thunder on my desk right now, waiting to be read. Probably one of the more glaring omissions.

    I'm over 25, and I've read...

Scroll down- it's like the tenth thread or something. Took me a bit to get all the options in.

    Okay, the poll is up.

    Poll - I'm over 25 and I've read....

Okay, second try- here's the pol for those of us over 25. I've included all the authors mentioned by posters in the other thread and a few gaming-specific ones (who here read Gord?)

    I'm over 25, and I've read...

My post-fu is weak today. There was SUPPOSED to be one. One's on its way.

It's time for the old fogies to have their say....

A Question for the 25 and under crowd - What have you read?

You included Rowling- who doesn't even consider her work fantasy- and left out George R. R. Martin, who is a miniatures enthusiast, a loud advocate for RPGs of his series and far better selling than anyone on that list short of Rowling herself. As for me, I'm 38. In order of preference...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Eh? Who said anything about "not allowing" them to be dragon sorcerers? I said that I think they made strength the secondary sorcerer trait to cater to Dragonborn, not to allow dragonborn to take the class and become competent at all. If the secondary stat had been, say, constitution, it...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Dragonborn are probably the best executed race in 4e. It doesn't make them the best race- there are plenty of classes in which they are merely good fits. They simply happen to have an attribute combination that couples the two most popular primary attributes in the game. Strength: Fighter...

How does the wizard compare now?

Victim touched on this, but to elaborate: Wizard Encounter Powers are wonderful once you get into the paragon tier. I'd say that even PHB encounter powers beat out the Invoker PHB2 powers- sometimes quite handily. The heroic encounter powers left a little to be desired (Icy Rays and Color...

Will WotC ever get it right?

The rider feats for fire and thunder (resounding thunder) tend to be stronger than acid. I have a feeling that WotC had this on their mind while designing the powers. Not saying that it justifies the slightly numerically weaker level 29 power, but it should be taken into account.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Sustain is a specific keyword in 4e. Sustain minor, for example, allows you to continue using that power if you spend a minor action. The power would then tell you exactly what portion of the power is sustained. The One sword has no such sustain power. What you probably mean by "sustainable"...

January 2010 Releases: Underdark, PH Heroes: Dragonborn, Galaxy of Intrigue

White Plume Mountain, published twenty-eight years ago, was fourteen pages long and sold for $6.00. I simply don't see charging $10 for a thirty-two page book being controversial in 2009.

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

Just because some race-class combos aren't optimal doesn't mean that the rules don't match the fluff. Drow Priests have so much power influence not because they have great stat bonuses- they're awesome because Lloth favors them. Who cares about an extra +2 wis? Come over here and have a...

Experts on other systems, why aren't they d&d?

I have a generally broad view of what D&D is. For me, Runequest and Warhammer fantasy (the older version, at least) fit just fine into that view. Rolemaster does as well, pretty much. Of course, I haven't played any of the three in decades, literally. Just because I classify them as very...
