Some people seem to be taking the term "farm boy" a bit too literally.

This PDF cover has to be seen...

IME, when someone puts something of that quality on display, it is not that they do not care, it is because they are not aware of what others might think, even if those others would likely represent and overwhelming majority and that majority opinion would be unfavorable. It is far simpler, and...

    Wizards aiming younger audience

Indeed. In many FUNdamental ways, in fact. :) I have always been of a mind that the combat should be incidental to the adventuring, exploring, investigating, etc. I feel this is also the way to present any combat scenarios in RPGs to youngsters.

    Wizards aiming younger audience

There's your commercial: a mom DMing for a couple of kids, the kids then go on to college where one of them is DMing for a bunch of friends, then one day the kid, now grown up, is DMing for his kids with the mom, now grandmother, joining in while visiting. Generations of gaming.

Something that 4e's designers overlooked? -aka is KM correct?

I think everyone bothering to post here considers themself part of the "fanbase" in every fair sense of the word, and therefore by posting are expressing their sense of what is important. Well, . . . leading armies, rising to the level of kings and generals and high priests and guild leaders...

Something that 4e's designers overlooked? -aka is KM correct?

There are different types of wargames, of course, some that do tactical planning well (like skirmish miniatures games) and others that do strategic planning well (big picture board wargames, for instance). The further D&D has gotten from its roots, the less it does the second well. I don't...

Something that 4e's designers overlooked? -aka is KM correct?

It was wargames that were as much the source material for D&D as fiction and since D&D is a game, not a linear narrative, it stands to reason that both the strategic and tactical elements of games that were its predecessors and progenitors would be present.

Looking to play 4E for more than an hour at Gen Con

I'm not sure that most convention gaming is geared toward that sort of thing. No matter what you do, please keep this thread bookmarked and make a post-convention report on your findings.

That's certainly understandable. I was running some games at Little Wars over the last weekend that were geared toward combat but they are not personalized like a roleplaying game, merely miniatures games where the players are disassociated from the individual actions of the combatants. Once...

It would appear that disabling experience points doesn't disable comments and ignoring a user doesn't ignore that user's comments.

    2010 Little Wars

The Midwest Chapter of the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society held their anual Little Wars convention over this last weekend (April 23-25) and the turn out of about 750 attendees was up over last year's economic downturn low. Moving back from the main building to the raquet court building, as...
