D&D 5E (2014) What's the problem with certain types of creatures being immune to Sneak Attack?

Gee, sorry you've had to reply twice to the same weak point, maybe if it made sense you'd have better ground to stand on. What a bunch of hogwash. Flies in the face of logic to warp rogues into a combat class - even better than warriors apparently, at timing attacks. You know, that thing the...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the problem with certain types of creatures being immune to Sneak Attack?

How is it like a STR mod? Or simply rolling high? Keeping opponents off balance and hitting hard is what a fighter does. Should fighters have Sneak Attack too? no, because it's something else. It's coming out of cover and stabbing in the back, or something very similar. The thief doesn't need...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the problem with certain types of creatures being immune to Sneak Attack?

Same thing really though. how are you doing extra damage to a ghost or skeleton? as opposed to a human or orc?

D&D 5E (2014) What's the problem with certain types of creatures being immune to Sneak Attack?

I think its a fair ruling that backstabs should only be effective against targets that have functional vital organs and such. So most undead are out, slimes, oozes, and soforth.

    Favorite Odd Weapons

The original games give reason a-plenty. The AD&D charts muddied things, but I am finding it extremely easy to use simplified weapon vs. armor types IMC. Give weapons designed to defeat plate armor a bonus vs. plate. Allow flails to negate shield bonus. One-handed swords are at a disadvantage...

D&D 5E (2014) The Slaughter House: How dropping attributes will improve DnD

I think the point is confused - the OP seems to advocate dropping stat modifiers, not stats themselves, which is indeed how D&D is originally designed. I think there are good reasons for this, and it shouldn't be too hard to drop said modifiers in B/X or even AD&D, if being used without skill...

Are high attributes more fun then low attributes?

Low stats are so much more fun its ridiculous. I'd even say they are objectively more fun, as a low stat is fun for a whole group. Possible exception is STR, a very high score here is often amusing for everyone. Comeliness also, if you're using it. I couldn't tell you how many super-characters...

D&D 5E (2014) How about this for 5E Campaign Settings: "Classic Worlds of D&D"

A philosophical point, but important - there is no core setting of D&D regardless of what current publishers say or intend. Settings are gravy. That's great, I didn't think it was 80%..... this really offers some counter to Rob Kuntz's rant about creatives vs. "eager dependents", and the...

D&D 5E (2014) How about this for 5E Campaign Settings: "Classic Worlds of D&D"

Sure. Of course Homlett is Greyhawk, isn't it? I luckily got a VGC monochrome copy as part of a lot a few years back that essentially cost me nothing. I have a strange fascination with modules and settings. I find them inspiring and boring all at once. I have around 20-30 them, plus a Ruins of...

D&D 5E (2014) How about this for 5E Campaign Settings: "Classic Worlds of D&D"

I would be much more likely to purchase things like 4E's geomorph type products. Settings - meh. They exist to be cannibalized for maps and NPC's. Not too interested in running Ed's, or Gary's, or Frank's, etc. worlds.

Yeah it seems a bit overthunk and dice-happy.

    Game design has "moved on"

Well. I am a genius DM, so I don't know what to say here. The players are there to experience my genius, and I theirs. D&D players have to be highly creative, or they die. DMs are players. And so on. But whomever is running should be rspected as fellow mad genius. I do fantasize running...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 12/13/13

The stuff about prone targets really suggests too many chefs to the point of farce. After much deliberation, we might decide that a prone target is at disadvantage. Nicely done. Con check for concentration - while I use saving throws, myself , which I find a better "check" mechanic than...

    Game design has "moved on"

Somewhat yes, after all he was very close to the Gygaxes growing up. Your last point is one I'm not sure about. To me, DMing is all about creativity, improvising, and design. I don't catch a vein of "administering" to players from Robs writing. (i'm not sure what that statement implies)...

    Game design has "moved on"

Managed to find it Rob Kuntz: Yeah. Mere verbal positioning by EGG, which I skipped in the matter as such. He wanted to draw in Wargamers and not alienate any who were primed to transition from Chainmail to an obviously different system; same as noting that the rules were useable with...

Not the one I was looking for, but here is an interesting discussion with Rob Kuntz http://hillcantons.blogspot.com/2011/08/no-borders-or-limits-conversation-with.html
