Mythic Odysseys of Theros: An In-Depth Review

Now that's an epic review, thanks heaps for sharing! Incidentally, in these days of quarantine, you could run a game by yourself organising and running a gladiatorial arena based on these rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Unfortunately I'm not at all familiar with the Unconquered Sun from Exalted :)

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Slavery exists even today, even all around us, because we dehumanise workers in some countries in giving them horrendously low pay and poor working conditions, and because we dehumanise prisoners and have them make items for horrendously little pay, not to mention absolutely disgusting sex...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

I do feel that's a step in a positive direction. What's troubling is the coupling of certain races to evilness, but having said that, 5e's distancing from objective alignments is also moving into a positive direction, as well as the decisions involving the orcs. Perhaps we could decouple races...

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

I was very tempted to just leave his alignment as Zeus tendencies lol.

Thanks heaps, mate! Perhaps Αήττητος ήλιος instead? :P

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Someone on the DNDNext Reddit suggested a shape changing ability, and that's an excellent idea; his flavor even describes him changing into a golden stag or pegasus, and so I've edited in Change Shape.

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Essentially, his conflict with Purphoros due to his overwhelming arrogance and desire for glory and praise escalated into a godswar; he self-styled himself the Ruler of the Gods without the input of the others. He also betrayed Elspeth, after making her his Champion, because of Heliod reasons.

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Truthfully I'm not too sure, I'm not that familiar with the setting, but the gods are more visible and intrusive (I feel is the best descriptive) in the setting, and the gods are always on the lookout for champions. Everything in the setting also seems larger than life, and heroes are more...

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Good points! It's also an excellent idea to run the numbers through the Blog of Holding metric (will try to do so; from a fast scan of the text Heliod does seem to fall within his CR range); something that might shore up his CR is that Heliod essentially has unassailable regeneration.

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Thanks heaps, mate! Heh, I've been reading about Heliod in his MtG Gamepedia entry (as part of research, as well as reading Mythic Odysseys of Theros), and even the Theros depiction of him describes him as more fickle than anything, using the word mercurial, while also personifying order and...

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

I've edited the OP with flavour text, and a description of Heliod with his ideals, bonds, and flaws, and description as a mythic encounter.

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

After looking into this some more, having them as resistances instead of immunities seems more appropriate, I've edited this in; this breadth of resistances and immunities will also serve to inform the resistances and immunities of other gods down the road. No worries, thanks heaps! Thank you...

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Good points! Cold was so to illustrate he is unbothered by his expeditions through the cold night of Nyx, and to also symbolise the travels of the sun as it traverses through the cold void, and unbothered by this traversal. Lightning and thunder were, I felt, representative of the immunities of...

D&D 5E (2014) Heliod, God of the Sun

Good points with these, AC was a bit tricky because these creations are not meant to be as epic as Dave's (awesome as they are), but I've edited in an AC of 23. Thanks heaps with that! The hp should seem about right, as Dave rightfully points out he actually has 986 hp as a mythic.

Heliod, God of the Sun v1.3

This is a 5e statblock for Heliod, God of the Sun, the Sun-Crowned. The Champion reached for a stone, and Heliod placed the Sun into her hand – The Theriad HELIOD THE SUN-CROWNED Radiating with self-assurance and pride, Heliod represents all of the radiance and brilliance of the sun. His...

D&D 5E (2014) Mythic Odysseys of Theros on DNDBeyhond

I've been reading this book little by little, as work is mainly occupying, but I'm finding the writing in this book to be really evocative and glorious in its imagery and composition.

D&D 5E (2014) What kind of planar book do you hope for?

Could we get something like a Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica, Eberron Rising from the Last War, and Mythic Odyssey's of Theros, but for a combined Planes and Spelljammer book? That'd truly be glorious!
