D&D 5E (2014) Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

Probably. Designers are trying to avoid stereotyping which is fine. I personally think it's missing the point. Humanoids don't need to have real-world-esque layers and complexity, because they're not real world. There's no depth to explore, and there doesn't need to be. Ultimately, everyone's...

WotC WotC Generates 75% Of Hasbro's Profit

If they're making so much bank, could they extend a little and re-do Planescape?? How about some nice boxed sets? An Unearthed Arcana manual to make the game slightly less bland? I know, I know, splintering the market, keep doing what you're doing, etc. But the more I look at Wizards and...

WotC WotC Generates 75% Of Hasbro's Profit

... this has never been possible in the entire history of the internet. I think back fondly on some flamewars that made my eyeballs melt out of my head. 🤗

Blood Gods Change The Landscape of Vampire The Masquerade

Requiem was and is a really, really good game. The second edition is truly one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Its main issue, as someone else pointed out, is a lack of players. And if anyone is on the fence with V5, just take the plunge. Another really great game. If you're keen for all...

Blood Gods Change The Landscape of Vampire The Masquerade

V5 is a great game with a lot of scope for a good time. Plays very fast. My problem has been with its players, many of whom are much more interested in its social hierarchies than in the viscera of being an actual vampire. Why not just play Goth Gossip Girl, the RPG? It doesn't help that the...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2 and the two dichotomies

I don't understand this. My group's player characters feel powerful all the time, because I don't just throw foes of their level at them. Actually, the beauty of PF2 is that if you've ground through a dungeon, then you can come out a badass and smash your way through the thieves guild or...

Pathfinder 2E Is It Time for PF2 "Essentials"?

They're looking for D&D. End of story.

Pathfinder 2E Advice for a 5E DM moving to PF2E

More than understandable. Glad you gave it a shot.

Pathfinder 2E Is It Time for PF2 "Essentials"?

I'm glad they didn't do this. I tried 5e for years and its problems are just too numerous. Blandness being chief. Pf2 means I can get a 'D&D-esque' experience and attract 'D&D' players without having to run 5e. Paizo has enough name recognition that many players will say 'oh yeah, Pathfinder's...

Pathfinder 2E Is It Time for PF2 "Essentials"?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much damned hand wringing over something so inconsequential. But I must say the line of ‘why can’t Paizo just abandon its own silly game and produce some stuff for the system I like’ is kind of irrelevant. In my experience, unless I’m playing in hardass iron-lung...

Pathfinder 2E Tell me about The Abomination Vaults

I’m a few sessions into Abomination Vaults now. It has a nice, classic feel to it while still managing to be fresh. Small town not far from Absalom so we can even have incursions from ‘big city folk’. My players are all new to the system and four of the six are new to ttrpgs. They’re all having...

Pathfinder 2E Advice for a 5E DM moving to PF2E

Try it yourself and see. I’ve never encountered play like I see here in these enworld threads.

Pathfinder 2E Advice for a 5E DM moving to PF2E

It’s a death wish if the GM plays hard against the PCs. I’ve been in three PF2 groups and know multiple players. This is anecdotal of course, but I’ve never encountered the structured hard assery I see in these threads on enworld. It’s kind of baffling. I actually prefer Pf2 and switched to it...

Who is the quintessential D&D artist?

Elmore, Elmore, then Elmore. No contest. Beautifully proportioned fantasy realism. Then Easley. I need to give honorable mention to Julie Bell, who isn’t on the list. Brom also gets an honorable mention, because his aesthetic is Dark Sun to the core, and vice versa. And Dark Sun is one of the...

Paizo After the PF Savage Worlds Kickstarter...what other RPG systems would you like to see Paizo team up with?

HERO is a lot of fun, but it's not really flavored right for fantasy. The powers are too generic. No matter how much you call it 'fireball', a 'blast with radius' is not terribly wondrous. Works great for modern and space stuff though.

Pathfinder 2E Is it time for a new Pathfinder Setting?

Playing through Abomination Vaults right now. It's very good.

Paizo After the PF Savage Worlds Kickstarter...what other RPG systems would you like to see Paizo team up with?

Wait, is this actually happening? In any case, I know it's not likely, but I would love to see Pathfinder/Golarion and a couple of adventure paths converted to Chronicles of Darkness, probably using some combination of the base rules, and the powers for Werewolf the Forsaken, Mage the...

D&D 5E (2014) [Updated with cover!] The D&D Book Is.... Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft!

I dunno. I ran Curse of Strahd and it just felt listless and unhorrifying, even though it was strictly better than the earlier Castle Ravenloft module. Maybe if they really go in on the degeneration/dark powers rules for doing evil acts and using negative energy, disempower paladins and positive...

D&D 5E (2014) [Updated with cover!] The D&D Book Is.... Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft!

So Wizards pasteurizes and bland-ifies yet another great AD&D setting. I'll give it a miss.

Pathfinder 2E Release Day Second Edition Amazon Sales Rank

I’d agree with this. Roll20 has ‘5e and everything else.’ Pf2 is in the ‘everything else’ and has to share resources with dozens of small games. I wouldn’t say that Pf2 is shrinking based on the Amazon numbers and Roll20, but there’s no way I’d say it’s growing right now. It has an engaged fan...
