    D&D General Alignment in D&D

Ugh. In 28 years of playing Dungeons & Dragons from 1E through 5E I have never encountered such a thing. That DM just sounds like she has a very poor, narrow, and inflexible understanding of the concept of Alignment; it sounds like the dreaded "Alignment as cookie-cutter personality syndrome."...

    D&D General Alignment in D&D

Yup. I actually love Alignment Languages and their weird cosmic implications. Quasi-magical philosophical/political jargon, with connections to the languages of the afterlife.

    D&D General Alignment in D&D

I'm seeing arguments over the existence of Alignment, not the definition of the Alignments.

    D&D General Alignment in D&D

All of these people complaining about problems and arguments arising out of Alignments... I have never once seen an argument over Alignment. Philosophical discussions, plenty, but never an argument. It has always been pretty cut-and-dried with everyone I have ever known.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

I am talking about the fantastical worlds of D&D, so basing it on myth is just proper. :) And that's a really cool idea for an adventure! You really should write it up! The PCs could be recruited by the Democracy movement to determine whether the King is telling the truth, maybe? According to...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

The on-paper ideals of Communism are radically Chaotic Good, with everyone being equal and all wealth being held in common to be shared according to need. It's the way in which people attempt to enforce those idealistic principles that end up being rather less-than idealistic.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Faufreluches would definitely be LN without the ideal of Noblesse Oblige also being dutifully adhered to. That's what makes LG distinct from LN. Do you think that King Arthur would think it proper to abdicate the throne in favor of a Democratically elected ruling body of peasants, or would he...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

I could agree with that, but still the ideal of every man being equal is distinctly CG.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

This whole topic connects to something that I get kind of tired of in D&D: treating the Lawful Good Alignment as matching the baseline ideals of modern liberal democracy, and matching the other Alignments to fit that standard. For example, all of those Alignment Charts online that always label...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Amen to that! I utterly despise this current post-modern trend of recasting Orcs and the like as just being disadvantaged minority outsiders that are driven to Evil by their poverty and disadvantaged culture. Orcs aren't human beings; they are born Evil. Their default attitude is to cruelty...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Interestingly, that isn't actually the intended meaning of Chaotic Evil, according to the 1E DMG; CE was the attitude of "survival of the fittest" and such an individual would do whatever they felt like without caring how their actions affected others. Only a moronic Chaotic Evil character with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Here's why we want a Psion class

Ha Ha, but I happen to think the idea of spacemagic is pretty rad. The last campaign I ran ended with the party stranded on their planet's Moon in a ring of monoliths after a teleportation mishap, surrounded by raygun armed Flumphs, with an advancing army of Mi-Go bearing down on them... all in...

    Origins Game Fair Postponed

It's the only sensible thing to do. Meanwhile, certain members of the United States Supreme Court made a ruling that forces people to physically go to the polls in Wisconsin instead of extending the absentee voting time period... which they hypocritically did through teleconferencing. That kind...

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Lucifer (1 of 3), Falling Angel

I actually use Lucifer/Satan in my homebrew campaign world called Alterra; as the name implies, it's an alternate Earth (I know, not the most original idea... ) and I heavily researched Milton and Dante to use for the combined group of Demon and Devils (in my setting they are locked in Hell and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Lucifer (1 of 3), Falling Angel

Viggo Mortensen's portrayal of Lucifer in The Prophecy is bone-chillingly awesome. When he hisses "I love you more than Jesus... " with his mouth all smeared with Gabriel's blood, it seriously gives me shivers.

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Lucifer (1 of 3), Falling Angel

Looks pretty cool. I personally would have started with Solar stats as Lucifer was an Archangel himself, the greatest of all the Angels (at least according to Milton) and even more powerful than Michael, unless I am very sorely mistaken. But even so, it looks good to me.
