Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

To be clear, I'm not saying the publishers listed in this announcement are going to do that, I am stating that the next big step is doing that. WotC used the OGL for a very long time to protect itself from others, just as much as others used it to protect themselves from WotC. The next big step...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Yep. The big step is creating a copyright-legal version "SRD" and then putting it out via ORC. We'll see if that happens. joe b.

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

I hope we're advancing, but I'm more cautious. I worry that the delays are simply time for refinements of the message of "we're not going to change anything" to try and minimize the damage they intend to do. I would really like to be wrong. Really, really, would like it. joe b.

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

I wonder if changing from 1.1 to 2.0 may change all sorts of search/push algorithms and the change is being done in that way with something like that in mind? joe "suspicious" b.

I'm not a lawyer so...., but I've always understood it as a trial without a jury. (now, lets see how wrong I am.. :D ) joe b.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Hrm... Dancey and Glicker (at role for combat) talked about getting a bench judgement. Glicker said that after speaking with Dancey he spoke with several lawyers and he said that they all thought that a bench judgement was likely. It doesn't sound like any of the lawyers here think that. joe b.

How long do we wait for WoTC to speak?

Sounds like nothing substantive. If it's not in writing, I'm not really interested. Video is to persuade and influence not problem solve. It's a performance. joe b.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I dunno. I found the same person's following tweets in that thread ....tedious. Using the term "fearmongering" when it's immediately followed up with "you'll have to (consume my monetized product X) to see what I mean!" reeks of click-bait and makes me think that the the monetized-discussion is...

Paizo and the Open RPG License?

I have no idea what this is, but it intrigues me... Has anyone heard anything? (nevermind, it's in this thread: Brian Lewis, original legal drafter of the OGL, speaks out" joe b.

Thanks for all of your commentary. It's been educational, in that "you are not my client, this is not legal advice" way... joe b.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Question: Would WotC officially stating that all prior versions of the OGL (other than 1.1) are officially unathorized and that all OGC released under those licenses is now not open content be enough for a breach of contract suit against them? (assuming the OGL would be considered a contract, of...

D&D Beyond Twitter Account says OGL will be addressed soon

IMO, the best case is WotC saying, "We phrased our intent poorly, and to demonstrate that, we're releasing a 1.0b OGL license that is the 10.a license that includes the word 'irrevocable'" If they did that, I believe much of the damage would be assuaged. Sadly, I think that is extremely...
