Where are all the great spy RPGs?

Interesting. Does sound like Savage Worlds or Cortex Plus. I would miss rolling percentiles though. They distinguished the system from games like D&D back in the day :) Does the game have a developed setting? Back to the OP: my favorite spy games were Top Secret (preference for the SI version)...

Where are all the great spy RPGs?

I'm excited to hear about this new game (which I believe is done but not mass produced). Are you allowed to talk more about it? From your comment, it seems like the dropped rolling percentile? Sent from my iPhone using EN World mobile app

D&D General Variation on Themes(by MwaO)

Wanted to say thanks for this guide. I've been using it to help with some builds for a few PCs. Organizing it by Role is a great help! Anyway, I'm wondering about Alchemist. The character concept for the Wizard in my campaign lent itself to this. I see it's pretty low, but I'd classify as...

Reactions to Primal Magic in Dark Sun

A few things to consider: Who do the templars serve? My campaign was set before Kalak was killed. The PCs were part of the conspiracy to kill him (and unfortunately the campaign ended before then). I'm going to assume that they serve some SK. Can people discern between a display of primal power...

Reactions to Primal Magic in Dark Sun

I ran a 4e Dark Sun campaign many years ago, and found primal magic to be a wonderful addition. Here's what I recall on how I wrestled with the questions you have now: -- Martial and Psionics were the most common, and therefore the "default" power source. -- Arcane was the most reviled. I...

    Returning to 4e

For reference, how many monsters (or units) do you (OP and others) typically use during an encounter? I ask because I don't find tracking minions, and "minions+" (with hp) that difficult. For a party of 5, my typical encounter has 5-10. My biggest was 30 units, and even then it wasn't too...

What is your favorite Minion house rule

My last campaign I used something similar (I don't recall the specifics right now), but what I was after is an AoE power would have 50/50 chance to one shot a minion but a hit would always bloody it and a second hit would kill it. Almost always, a single target power (esp by a Striker) would...

    Perception with other skills

I wouldn't get rid of Perception but other skills could probably be used in lieu of it. Insight is used for "people Perception" (at least that's how I use it). Perhaps Dungeoneering can be used instead of Perception in underground settings or Nature while in the outdoors. Perception would be...

Terrain aid query for public square combat encounter

A few suggestions I haven't seen mentioned: - Sand. Arena floors are covered in sand, which could be used to blind (the wizard? Demon?) or creative use of powers could create a sandstorm providing cover from the archer? - set the arena on fire. Perhaps it breaks out naturally, or is set by the...

    D&D 4E A wierd thing I like about 4e

Combats and Ressources (again...) - How to condense Adventures

Im wrestling with the same issue in my recent 4e campaign. My group plays about once a month for 4-6 hours. We tend to fit in 1-2 full blown tactical combats with SCs and role-playing filling the rest. You might want to experiment with changing extending rests to require being in town/refuge...

    Dark Sun 4e

Besides the Dark Sun Campaign Setting, the Creature Catalog is a must have (or at least highly recommended). So is PHB3 for psionics. I'd seriously consider PHB2 for the primal classes and the bard, which has an interesting spin. I don't recall the Primal power source in 2e DS, but the classes...

    Eberron for Two

Good to see you had a good time. As for me, I have run a few games for my kids. For my oldest son, I ran an old edition of Gamma World (he played a mutated killer whale :heh:). Unfortunately, I ran it way too long and it kinda turned him off. OTOH, I recently ran a D&D Next session with my...

What's a good way to include many secondary combatants in a fight?

I'd first determine two things: 1. What is the scale of fight? Is is army-vs-army or something like a bar room brawl? My impression from your post is it's the later. 2. How much interactivity do you want between the PCs and the secondary combatants? I've used three approaches so far during my...

    Biggest Franchises Without an RPG

Well, I'm surprised that a new generation RPG hasn't been redone for TMNT; my kids and I enjoy the current series! Dexter might be a cool RPG, maybe for a duo (GM and single player). Pacific Rim is still in theatres, but I'd seriously consider buying the RPG if one came along.

    Who's pumped for Pacific Rim?

Saw the movie and thought it was great. I didn't expect the story and characters to interest me as much as it did (given that I expected it to be mainly a gorgeous looking slamfest) But it certainly could be better. I'd give it a B+/A-.

    Roleplaying systems/modules for 2?

I've ran a few duo campaigns. My two "go to" picks are the James Bond 007 rpg and Buffy/Angel rpgs. Both settings support a single, competent main character (PC) with a good supporting cast (NPC). The rule systems for both are simple enough, though I especially like the 007 mechanics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Coming Around on the "Not D&D" D&D Next Train

I'm looking at DDN (like most RP games I buy) with the eye of "how likely will I play or run it?" And the answer for me is "likely to very likely." So, I will probably purchase it, and run it, but probably not right away. I also don't how often I would run it, whether just one-shots, short arcs...
