Orcs of Stonefang Pass with 3D Paper Terrain

Pretty awesome setup! I'll definitely be tracking this thread and checking out OP.

Help me find one of each Role

I've seen the warden in play and yes they are very effective, one of top defender classes IMO. But in relation to the fighter? I'm still leaning toward the fighter. Hmmmm.... Ok, I was hoping someone would bring up the Avenger (my reference to it was subliminal messaging, intended to spark a...

Help me find one of each Role

Thanks to all who've responded! Let's see.... Jester, your list of classes mirrors most of my "short list." Instead of invoker though, I was thinking of a Wizard (Eladrin). I've played a Deva Avenger, and while it didn't "wow" me as a striker, it was chock full of flavor. For a striker, I was...

Help me find one of each Role

I usually GM 4e, so I'm especially excited that I'll be joining a new 4e campaign as a player. So, I'm looking for help on classes (and races too) for each role: Striker, Defender, Leader, Controller. I like classes that are effective, but they don't have to be the best or uber (someone...

    Revisiting 4th Edition

Cool. I just restarted my 4e Dark Sun campaign and am gearing to actually play another 4e campaign. Is Born by Fiends a Dungeon adventure? Haven't heard of it. What was the skill challenge in BbF about? I really like SC but they are hard to pull off sometimes, or in the manner one expects. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) 11/1/13 google hangout with

Really interesting discussion that’s chock full of stuff. I came away from it thinking this: What a tricky balancing act this is becoming! But I think they are going about it the right way (IMHO). Specifically: -- Attention paid to the game play experience and making the GM's job easier. As an...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Online MMORPG Announced

In Mark Kalmes' interviews on the Fear the Boot blog, his comments paint a more realistic picture of how things are going with the project. It's a small dev team, around 11-12 people. So the goal of the KS is to allow them to grow their staff to around 20 people. TBH, his comments were a bit...

D&D 4E The "4E Crowd" - where will they go? What will they play?

I think it'll depend on how similar 5e is with 4e. I don't see a lot of similarities yet (and the underlying math chassis is different for sure), but there should be modules that may make it more enticing. I'm taking a "wait and see" approach (besides participating in playtests when I can).

    D&D 4E New Year, New 4e

Yeah, I don't think a lot of changes are needed. To be clear, a core issue (imho) is something that warrants new rules that change the current RAW - essentially that the current RAW are broken. I just don't see a lot of those. Sure, I would change a few more things - like making power sources...

    D&D 4E New Year, New 4e

4e's current combat system is perfect IMHO for set piece battles...and that's how I mainly use it. But it does need a way to speed up combat, a middle ground. There are many threads by GMs running gridless combat, so it can be done, but it would be great to consolidate and refine it into a...

    Being Left Behind

I just found something else to play. When I finally abandoned 2e, it was due to oWoD and a variety of non-fantasy games (including running a retro Gamma World story arc). That held my interest throughout 3.x edition, which I only managed to play a few sessions. I really didn't miss D&D much...

Tell us about your favourite space RPG and why?

Thanks, Paul. I'm definitely going to try this out. Brings back fond memories.

Tell us about your favourite space RPG and why?

This is a tough one. If "favorite" means "if you had to pick one sci-fi RPG to play for the rest of your life", I'd pick WEG's Star Wars. It's flexible, cinematic and really captured the Star Wars feel. OTOH, a definite favorite of mine would have to be "Star Frontiers", mainly for the nostolgia...

    D&D 4E Dragon Mountain (4e conversion - complete!)

Finally found time to respond to the OP. Awesome conversion, Quickleaf! [/I]My initial reaction when you first posted this hazard (a few posts ago) was to use the condition/disease track. Here, this is seen as a single hazard (which is fine if you want it this way), but it could be more dramatic...

    D&D 4E Late to the D&D 4E Bandwagon - First Impressions

+1. I didn't jump on the bandwagon in 2008 either (2010 is when I played by first 4e game). Now it's my fave edition. I particularly like GMing 4e.

Name ONE favourite thing about your favourite edition

4e - Easy DM prep (due to elegant monster design). It allowed me to focus on the most important parts: story and role-playing!

    Choosing a Star Wars game

Well, my comment was intended as a general statement, mainly to avoid power creep. Even with just the Jedi powers in the core rule book, my character was pretty powerful in combat - a true combat monster. Jedi have powers and they have a lot of hitpoints. I built him originally as a force user...

    Choosing a Star Wars game

My vote is for the d6 WEG game. Fun game. I GM'd it for a couple of years for a mix of Jedi and non-Jedi PCs. Pros: Fast, flexible system that resolves combat quickly. The lethality was just right. PCs dodge pretty often (so they can last quite a while), but they can still be overwhelmed...

D&D 5E (2014) Have you moved on yet? Has Wizard's handled this properly?

Haven't read the entire thread. But to the OP: Not yet. I'm still interested in DDN, more so in the past couple of months. But I'm not completely sold on it and my current campaign (and a host of other games) are consuming most of my time...for now.

How to best run a "buddy cop" game

Cool setting. I'm not really familiar with Pathfinder, but I run a 4e Dark Sun campaign right now. From a character creation standpoint, the classes are pretty balanced, so both "buddies" won't outshine the other (at least in combat). They are also designed with specific roles in mind. But since...
