D&D 5E (2014) "When DMing I Avoid Making the PCs have 'pointless' combats." (a poll)

Neither of my groups just want to resort to outright violence and so I don’t force combat. Between 2 groups I only have 1 player who’s more the murder hobo type of player, but he’s generally quelled by the rest of the players in the group.

D&D General Looking for fantastical ideas: The Moon

The god’s hair has become a primeval, lush, jungle which is enriched by the inherent magic. Instill whatever tribes of conflicting interests you’d like to add combats and drama.

D&D 5E (2014) "As DM, I Know How All the PCs' Abilities, Spells, and Items Work" (a poll)

Yeah, there’s one player at my table who really overlooks action economy and the limits therein, so I generally make him read it aloud and we examine what he’s trying to do within that constraint. He’s also a dice snatcher, so I’ve had to ask players to discretely keep an eye on his rolls.

D&D 5E (2014) "As DM, I Know How All the PCs' Abilities, Spells, and Items Work" (a poll)

Life’s busy. I pull the, “remind me” card out all the time, and it helps other players know what certain abilities and features are for their own future character-building purposes.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Human Problem Pt 1

I tend to focus on distinctive cultural differences across parts of my campaign worlds. So elves from one side of a region to the other side of the region are more or less xenophobic vs. helpful. So an elf from the west might want nothing to do with an elf from the east. The elf from the west...

D&D 5E (2014) I have never once worried about "encounters per day" when prepping D&D 5E (a poll)

I have never once worried about “encounters per day” when prepping D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Human Problem Pt 1

With respect to humans being ‘locked in’ on a specific geographic boundary by other species, races, powers that be, monsters…you could absolutely use the ‘points of light’ idea; human settlements are few and far between. One of the few safe places for humans and half-humans in a world that is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Long-Term Downtime Activities?

I’m with you and have no interest. I let them work on it as part of their adventure-planning and what not. We found a balance. I was just trying to add to the OP’s idea with some additional considerations.

    D&D 5E (2014) Long-Term Downtime Activities?

Another idea as part of long-term downtime activities; hobby/pleasure entertainment. Like sports, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) Long-Term Downtime Activities?

Starting a business or enterprise. I’ve noticed that most of the time that this ends up being a brewery of some sort. But it could also be a larger import/export entity, shipping, some kind of guild.

    D&D 5E (2024) Perfect edition update (kinda + thread)

There are a slew of great ideas in here. I love the idea of getting the rules down to 5 pages or less as per the post above. I also agree with the post about using the new Mordenkainen’s format on playable races; one-page format is precisely the type of thing I go for…which is why we created the...

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

In the volume 2 supplement we currently have in edits, there’s an alliance of gnomes that lashed out militarily against all the other races in the region. The premise of the encounter/adventure being that someone has come forward to atone for why it all went down. So there are definitely...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your "go to" campaign concept?

I tend to like creepy-horror so I’m always trying to mix elements of that sort of dark fable horror into my games. I don’t beat my players over the head with it, but it adds a nice air of uncertainty that makes it fun. I mostly just like ideas that keep the game rolling along which is why we...

    D&D General Adventure Prologues

It’s a fun idea! So long as your players are cool with spending 1-2 sessions playing as such. For something like this I’d probably have them create their character and then I’d create their ‘NPC‘ version that was in town during the foreshadowing events. If a particular character didn’t fit in...

D&D General Using interchangeable power sources for the Sorcerer, Warlock, Paladin and more. (+)

I just got my copy of Tome of Heroes from Kobold Press and it has a Warlock of the Old Wood patron which fits in with the style and theme of Warlock you’re talking of building. It actually has druid spells as part of the expanded spell list. They even included some Eldritch Invocations that are...

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

I think general dislike for gnomes has to do with the average player or DM playing/using them as leprechauns. They’re not leprechauns…but I’ve only ever seen them loosely played as such.

D&D General what is the unifying theme of gnomes?

I think of the forest gnomes’ curiosity with respect to disciplines like herbalism, botany and working with nature, etc. Want an answer to a very specialized herbalism question, consult a forest gnome type of thing.

D&D 5E (2014) The tyranny of small numbers

The group I run for doesn’t optimize their stats. They take feats/ASIs at about half/half. Having all the numbers perfect doesn’t radically affect players that play as a coordinated unit.

D&D General what is the unifying theme of gnomes?

I have a hard time of thinking of gnomes as either; forest-dwelling caretakers or scatter-brained tinkerers (thank you Dragonlance). As far as unifying themes; creativity, out of the box thinking, “squirrel”
