This is EXACTLY why FR is among my least favorite settings to play in. It does make great novels though. Greyhawk is the ultimate setting for "enough background to give you structure without being restrictive".

Also for crafty players another way around this is Spell Resistance, or plain old Dispel might work, to negate the effects if the Dimension Lock.
