D&D 5E (2014) Changes with Equipment, Weapons, Armor.

The rules for medieval weapons and armor in D&D have never made much sense to me, in any edition.

    Happy Birthday Gary Gygax!

Wow! Thanks for sharing that with us Mark. I wish Ernie all the best and some good luck for a change! I find gaming to be very cathartic at times when stress is high. The creative outlet and being around friends for a while having fun can make a big difference when times are tough.

    Happy Birthday Gary Gygax!

Today, July 27, is Gary Gygax's birthday! All of us owe a lot to him and the profound impact his life had on our lives. He's gone now, but we can still pay tribute to the first DM. So Happy birthday Gary! The world was made a better place by you being in it. Scott

    Sword Documentary Kickstarter

Hi everyone, I know many gamers are also sword collectors and enthusiasts. I found this Kickstarter for a pretty cool looking documentary about swords you should check out and see if you'd like to support it. It's got a lot of celebrities from the sword making and movie industries. It's...

What's your favourite D&D setting of all time?

Sounds like you're saying "If you take all the FR stuff out of FR, it's awesome!". LOL

What's your favourite D&D setting of all time?

This is EXACTLY why FR is among my least favorite settings to play in. It does make great novels though. Greyhawk is the ultimate setting for "enough background to give you structure without being restrictive".

Last Call for DEEP MAGIC; RUNEQUEST 6E Deluxe Hardcover; and Secrets of TSR; plus SATAN is a Harsh D

It seems like the video was trying to target role playing games, but the game they're playing looks more like Candyland with a GM. Interesting concept! I'll have to try that with the kids this weekend. "You CANNOT cross the licorice space until you draw the blood of a competing gingerbread...

    Games In A Museum?

I would argue that it is. Imagine if you could sit down and read about a game of tactics and strategy being played by roman legionaries. Knowing the game existed and possibly some of the rules or the game's origin is weak compared to having a firsthand account of two soldiers actually playing...

    Games In A Museum?

One thing I carry over from my historical reenacting is that from the perspective of history, learning about what kinds of games people played tells you a lot about how they lived and what kinds of things they thought about. Take a question like "So what kinds of games did people play in 1340?"...

Rich Baker Launches Sasquatch Game Studio; Is D&D "art"?; and we review SHADOWRUN 2050!

I've recently wondered if D&D is art myself. Should make an interesting read.

Oozes that split... do they re-form?

So I had a situation in my game where an ooze (a black pudding) was split a few times, but has an opportunity to re-form back into one "piece". So my question to the hive mind is this: how would you rule an ooze becoming one again after being split up in combat? No wrong answers, but I've...

Rules Question: Can you use Phase Door while within a Dimensional Lock?

Also for crafty players another way around this is Spell Resistance, or plain old Dispel might work, to negate the effects if the Dimension Lock.

Rules Question: Can you use Phase Door while within a Dimensional Lock?

The reason for my opinion is that the spell doesn't use the typical language used in other 3.x spells for an area affect. I believe the intent of the spell was to create a barrier through which creatures cannot teleport that could encompass an area of specified size. That in itself does not...

Rules Question: Can you use Phase Door while within a Dimensional Lock?

There are two answers to this. First, War bringer is correct, there's nothing about Dimensional Lock that implies one cannot teleport within the 1/2 mile radius you mentioned. Second, if the story needs the PC to be able to do it, then let him do it. Maybe the stakes are so high that a deity...

    Questions with Age of Worms

Reading the other posts and remembering more, it does depend quite a bit on how you run your game. The Adventure Path itself is built with lots of opportunities for downtime where you can run other adventures or just let time pass in the early parts but that gradually decreases until at the end...

    Keeper's Dale map?

    Questions with Age of Worms

I ran AOW and it took almost exactly 2 years of gaming one or two nights a week. I tossed in a couple side quests as well but those were pretty short 3 or 4 session adventures. I did it because I wanted the PC's to be powerful enough to face the boss at the end, as one thing you will quickly...
