    The power of a curse

In that situation, if the ring is really supposed to be a curse, then just make the race change permanent, and taking off the ring does nothing - once the curse has been bestown the ring becomes nonmagical. Sort of like an item of alignment change.

    The power of a curse

Thanks for pointing out those are actually humanoids Greenfield, I wasn't sure. But that still doesn't make a ring of Alter Self overpowered. You mentioned using it to swim, fly and gain AC, but any 5th level wizard can already do all those things, plus he can cast Alter Self too! So it's...

If you were the DM and...

First, I would rule that awakened sand is awakened sand no matter where it came from. Without knowing the specifics of the spell (it might specify that only "normal" or nonmagical sand can be awakened or something) I'd rule that the awakened sand from the Celestial realms has the oersonality and...

    The power of a curse

I should add that although Greenfield doesn't know what Alter Self does, he is still right that a ring of alter self is not really a "cursed" item. However, it's unclear whether the OP was talking about his friend making an item that is actually exploiting a curse for his own benefit, or...

    The power of a curse

Greenfield, in this case you clearly didn't do your research. Unless I'm reading it wrong, a human could not use Alter Self to become an Avariel, because Avariel are Fey, not Humanoids. And if you are already a fey then what's the big deal about changing into another one? Similarly, you could...

    The power of a curse

An item that allows someone the Alter Self spell would be much more reasonable. You'd be limited to forms that are the same type as either the wearer or the creator depending on how you see it, but it's a much cheaper and lower level alternative.

D&D 3.x 3.5 Magic Item Creation help needed.

I used to think that most people on this forum were the helpful types, but this thread is trying hard to prove me wrong. I'm a bit insulted by comments about being laughed out of someone elses game for my interpretation of a magic item description. I really doubt anyone who people enjoy...

Sanctum Spell - What's the purpose?

It depends a lot on the setting, but as a DM I'd never allow a PC to use a feat to qualify for a PrC like has been suggested here. Sounds too munchkin/powergamer to me. But I can imagine a setting in a city or a castle where a lot of the action takes place in the PC's home turf. Admitadly...

D&D 3.x 3.5 Magic Item Creation help needed.

Maybe you failed to notice that this is an untyped bonus to AC. Not only is this not lame, it's better than a Ring of Shield, Bracers of Mage Armor, and even a Ring of Protection, because it would stack with anything.

Would like some help evaluating an item

As a DM who gives out highly customized gear, I can see some stuff between the lines here. First, nobody else in the group has a comparable weapon. That makes you uncomfortable. That in turn means that you were not consulted on this development. Also, I get the sence that you dislike being...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Alternate form / change shape question

A question I always wonder is who actually uses the ridiculous "polymorph subschool" introduced in one of the supllements. All.subsequent books made use of it, which thankfully wasn't many. There was something in the polymorph subschool, that replaced alternate form rules, that made your class...

    Wild Shape and tattoos

I think this is how I'll handle the situation.

    Wild Shape and tattoos

So, if a druid wild shapes into a bear and gets a magic tattoo while in the form of a bear... 1. What happens to the tattoo when she reverts to her natural form? Is the tattoo still there? Does it function? 2. What happens when she wild shapes into a bear again? Is the tattoo...

Leaving The Forgotten Realms for Greyhawk. Any suggestions?

Probably the greatest Greyhawk setting adventure of all time is the Age of Worms. It was published in Dungeon magazine and you can still buy the PDF's of those issues from Paizo on their website. It spans an entire campaign from level 1 to level 20 and beyond. I personally DM'ed this campaign...

    Balancing Wizards and Clerics

Well Dandu, as I have said the DM can find a way to make any encounter challenging. Don't forget, the PC is supposed to win in the end anyway, whether he is a wizard or not. Spellcasting classes are definitely not unbalanced if you stick to the rules. I have run a campaign myself and know this...

    Balancing Wizards and Clerics

I think you may be missing the point. This discussion is about player character wizards and clerics being overpowered inherently by RAW. While I do not dispute anything you say, what you say is mostly not important. If the PC wizard uses the tactics you describe, he will certainly get away from...

    Balancing Wizards and Clerics

If you think about that, getting to within 10' of the wizard is just about all you need to do. His unarmored, probably unarmed self cannot withstand your feat powered (and thus inherently non magical) wizard slicing masterwork greatsword. A 15th level fighter NPC should easily one-shot a 15th...

    Balancing Wizards and Clerics

Having recently completed a 3.5 campaign that ran from level 1 to level 22 using RAW + "Complete" series and Spell Compendium, I can tell you that there really are no balance issues that you cannot overcome with good DM'ing. If spellcasters seem overpowered in your campaign, then take a step...

    Base attack bonus and Invisibility

As Kitcik said, by RAW your BAB is equal to the BAB of all your classes added together, so a Wizard 1/Rogue 1 would have BAB 0 for instance. You'll need to brush up on the invisibility rules for this PC, but because the Ninja's invisibility only lasts for 1 round at a time you shouldn't have...

    A colossal dragon ranch?

LOL that's pretty clever Greenfield ;) Not sure how I would go about nixing that idea from my players, though. I hope they never read this thread :P
