Selfish playstyles and other newer issues with the game

So, I've been playing D&D for about 20 years now, since early in 2nd edition. Over time, I've watched the game evolve, and played with different groups. I have to say, I'm having a hard time these days. Every release of the game, I've tried to be optimistic about it and push through even when...

    Sword coast legend questions.

Neverwinter and its module mode, despite me not really liking the game, I find to be much better at their intent. Play that would be my advice. It's free.

    Sword coast legend questions.

It is like an MMO with D&D-named things. It plays nothing like 5e, it's an action RPG like Diablo and has a cooldown-based magic system a-la everything on the market now. Wow, I didn't even notice that post. I don't even know how to respond. That was me he replied to. People are getting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Favorite non-WoTC FIFTH EDITION adventures?

I want to stab that "definition" function in the face.

    D&D 5E (2014) Favorite non-WoTC FIFTH EDITION adventures?

"The Fey Sisters' Fate" was fun, but short and it was REALLY expensive for 16 pages. I think it was $12.95?

D&D 5E (2014) If you use Group Initiative (like my group does), why do you use it?

So somehow Torok and Turg the orc grunts are not individuals? This seems like a case of wishy-washy rules. With regard to the group initiative, I really enjoy running games at cons using this rule. "Ok, it's your turn. Who goes first? Decide amongst yourselves." It really messes with people...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use Group Initiative (like my group does), why do you use it?

Holy ---- tl;dr This is exactly what a basic d20 roll avoids.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use Group Initiative (like my group does), why do you use it?

Just a reminder, RAW initiative is that you roll separate init for every enemy. Otherwise it's unbalanced. This would take me on average 5-7 minutes when I did it for a large group. There is just no way I'm going to reduce the number of creatures because the initiative system scales badly.

    D&D 5E (2014) How do I 5e?

Download the Basic Rules, print them, crumple them into a ball, and shove it all into your mouth at once.

D&D 5E (2014) Icons of the Realms Set 3: Rage of Demons

I paint all my minis for D&D, which are still almost all old Ral Partha. The paint applications on the new stuff are just terrible. The only things worth owning are some of the monsters, and I find often times they have no character with the blah, 2-3 color paint.

    D&D 5E (2014) Adventures not Adventure Paths

What happened to stronghold building and politics? This was a staple of 1st/2nd edition.

    Half-Dryad race

"This is a dryad feature" is not a good argument why it shouldn't be changed. We're talking about player characters here, and the abilities you have need to follow the design format of the other races, or you can easily end up with something that's way overpowered, broken, or both.

    Half-Dryad race

This. Or reduce it to plain old Charm Person 1/day

    Half-Dryad race

Guards and shopkeepers still get a save, and that should be based on your charisma score.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use Group Initiative (like my group does), why do you use it?

We did this as well but decided to stick with a by-the-book rule. Too much math. If the modifiers are ignored on both sides, it balances out. We still use them if one person is split from the party.

    Half-Dryad race

What does my reply have to do with combat?

    Half-Dryad race

So? Other PC races like Drow also have 1/day powers. What are you getting at? They still have an 8 + Cha save DC.
  19. Gnashtooth

    Half-Dryad race

I didn't say it isn't good, it's just that it doesn't really mesh with the way the other race-specific DCs are laid out. There is always a base number and a bonus. There should be a charm bonus for a higher charisma. A flat 14 is not going to be that useful later on when you have creatures...
