Yeah, Kickstarter is huge for publishers these days. Very important to both TTRPGs and board games.

It is worth considering how much of the 3E product line-up came out for 3.5E onwards. The early years of 3E were very light on material - the firehose came after 3.5E was released. It wasn't as light as 5E, of course, but still...

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Item Crafting oddities

It's the way 2024 doubled down on the poor rules that really annoys me. (Meanwhile, I'm seeing other products trying to give a MUCH better view of crafting).

Dragonlance Shadow of the Dragon Queen - question - Spoiller!!!

DL11 Dragons of Glory, the hex'n'counter wargame part of the line! Cheers!

The scariest content deals I've heard rumours about are from Bethesda Game Studio and their fan-made Creations. And it's "rumours" because I can't find definite figures. They don't make the split public. (Their first attempt at this program, a decade ago, gave the creators a "princely" 25%. And...

Dragonlance Shadow of the Dragon Queen - question - Spoiller!!!

Well, if you know what time of year it is... I haven't tried lining up the course of the war to what occurs in the battle, but given their lack of appreciation to the previous continuity, I assume it's just "because." Being a little less cynical, the Dragon Army has been seen to the west, and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Item Crafting oddities

The 5E 2024 crafting system is basically the XGE crafting system we've seen for a while, and it relies on really bad item prices and rarities. Ignoring that, it's basic and there's little thought to a reward economy. Functional, but the DM needs to intervene a lot. ToV has unique values for...

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Item Crafting oddities

The brooms are all the rage in my game, for some reason! Anyway... Broom of Flying - uncommon, fly 50 ft, unlimited use, attunement Winged Boots - uncommon, fly 30 ft, 1 hour, 4/day, attunement Wings of Flying - rare, fly 60 ft, 1 hour, attunement Carpet of Flying - very rare, fly 30-80 ft...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Part of it dates back to humans getting better at saves at higher levels. The higher level the opponent, all types were more likely to resist. With monsters/NPCs now having "weak" saves, hold person retains effectiveness against many foes far longer than it originally did.

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Item Crafting oddities

To craft a broom of flying... 200 gold pieces. To craft a potion of flying... 10,000 gold pieces. I just had a look at the changes from 2014 to 2024 with magic item crafting. I'm sure they said something about crafting being a selling point of 2024. I'm not misremembering that, am I? Cause...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Possibly. :) Next thing you know... halflings are aberrations as well! (Gnomes already should be!) One of the reasons I'm reacting so negatively to this change is that this isn't a new edition. If they'd say 2024 was 6E, I'd be fine with all these changes. But there's stuff here that actually...

D&D General Greyhawk fans - How to fit older modules with Age of Worms

While I ran all of Age of Worms, I gave up half way through Savage Tide, as it wasn't clicking with the group. Savage Tide is one of those APs where I actually didn't want them to leave the superbly detailed origin city (Sasserine) - I would have much rather a campaign set there rather than...

D&D General Greyhawk fans - How to fit older modules with Age of Worms

Honestly, if you run all of Age of Worms, that should be all you run. It's a BIG campaign. (I think it'd much better run in 5E than 3E - there are some design decisions that make the end of AoW incredibly unfun. Like, let's make the final boss immune to sneak attack and also have resistance to...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

I've actually run Vecna Lives! - while it is flawed, I would take it over Eve of Ruin! (Apart from anything else: the adventure felt like it was about Vecna!)

D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

I was considering what the highest banishment "drop" could be... Against a three member party... Dragon begins at 120 feet up. (range of banishment). First character acts. Dragon uses Banish Second character acts. Dragon uses Pounce and flies 40 feet straight up (half speed) Third character...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards have a problem with Spellcasting stat blocks

I'd be sort of okay with it if it were just "Bonus Action: 1/day-Healing Word" and that was it. (Not really okay). But instead we get three lines of text wasting valuable space rather than giving us information useful at the table.
