    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Yep. I'm with you - much prefer it this way. It was even better when just a digital purchase gave you early access, but that went away some time ago. (And I'm presuming I can then share the books with my campaigns early as well - can't see why not, as it's worked that way with other early...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Not quite. It looks like the digital+physical bundle no longer gives early access. Instead, if you have the Hero subscription tier (and do either digital OR digital+physical) preorder, you get access 1 week early. If you have the Master tier, you get access 2 weeks early. Preordering any of...

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

I can now do a digital-only preorder, get them early, and support my game store, and share with my players. (In fact, the Master tier requirement does prod people towards game stores who get it early). Cheers, Merric

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

The last few releases have required the DIGITAL + PHYSICAL bundle preordered to get the early access.

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Some of the terrain features are enlarged and expanded, and hex counting seems to be a little fewer. It's very, very close though.

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

For me, the incredible crappiness was the system before this... you had to preorder the Physical + Digital Bundle (in advance) to get early access. (If you were late and bought it in the week before the actual release, you still had to wait for access). Preordering just the Digital book? No...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I'm happy with the new map. The name changes don't offend me (and, for the most part, already existed in previous lore). The name that didn't change and now sticks out is the Bandit Kingdoms! My current campaign is apparently now in the Plains of the Ulakandar! Cheers, Merric

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

Yep. Preorder the book. But I expect that just preordering it is no longer a requirement for early access. (Or preordering the digital+physical bundle, as it has been recently). Cheers, Merric

D&D 5E (2024) Early access to 2024 books in DnDBeyond is tied to subscription tier.

From what I can see, the early access is not tied to the preorder of the items (digital+physical or otherwise). Need more information! Cheers, Merric

D&D General Defining "New School" Play (+)

One of the really interesting things to consider is that in classic D&D, you got better at saving against magic effects as you went up in level. From 3E onwards, you generally get worse, especially for your non-core saves. Cheers, Merric

D&D General Defining "New School" Play (+)

Another interesting quote from the opening chapter: In 1970, Gary Gygax ascribed to his Chainmail coauthor Jeff Perrin a distinction between the attitude of two types of players he called "warriors" and "gamers" where "warriors seek to duplicate actual conditions of battle" to emphasize realism...

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

All AL adventures except for Epics are available on the DMs Guild (with a few exceptions that are late). Linky: Dungeon Masters Guild - D&D Adventurers League - Cheers, Merric

D&D General Defining "New School" Play (+)

Quick question: Have you read The Elusive Shift by Jon Peterson? Quoting its opening paragraph: "Dungeons & Dragons famously resulted from the intersection of two cultures: a gaming culture of conflict simulation and a literary culture engaged with speculative and fantastic fiction. Or as Gary...

D&D General (SPOILERS for Vecna: Eve of Ruin) Are My Standards Too High for Adventures?

Finished Chapter 4 of Eve of Ruin tonight - the one set in Eberron. We found it very enjoyable. (So far, 3 of the 4 chapters have been fun to run, the other - chapter 2 - was passable). I really need to properly write up the sessions. Cheers, Merric

D&D General (SPOILERS for Vecna: Eve of Ruin) Are My Standards Too High for Adventures?

What makes a good adventure? It's not a question I can answer definitively, because there's not a definitive answer. What I can tell you is what I want in an adventure, but that doesn't necessarily correspond to what you want. Here's an example: An adventure that consists of keywords and...

D&D General (SPOILERS for Vecna: Eve of Ruin) Are My Standards Too High for Adventures?

Contrariwise, I've seen a lot of people having huge problems with Kingmaker. And that's the one everyone talks about as being good. And, I know from my own experience running it in PF1 that it has a lot of issues. Paizo are good at writing adventures, but so are Wizards. (And I note that the...

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

The process at Wizards has been in flux for some time, and reached its nadir with Descent into Avernus. They did realise afterwards that a big team of freelancers not communicating was a bad idea (though not quickly enough to save Icewind Dale), and so most "teams not communicating" products...
