I think I found the gazebo...

You could be right. I was just surprised to see a gazebo in an early edition of Dungeon (issue 16; 1E rules in use) so was wondering if it had been early enough to be the inspiration for this particular story.

I think I found the gazebo...

I think you were in too much of a hurry to tell your story. In my post I refer to finding a gazebo in the adventure. The adventure is called Vesicant. There is a gazebo on the roof of a palace but the gazebo is not called Vesicant nor does it have a name because it is a gazebo. However, there...

I think I found the gazebo...

Many, if not most, are familiar with the "I attack the gazebo" story that can be found in several places on the internet (although it's not as funny as the head of Vecna story, but I digress...). I have been re-reading my old Dungeon magazines and, in issue 16, I found that there is a gazebo in...

Chris Perkins now Senior Producer, D&D RPG

... and the fact that WotC has a problem designing good adventures and they have an adventure designer of Chris Perkins's calibre filling a management role shows that they have wasted an opportunity to design more than one good adventure or so a year!

    2011, Spelljammer, 4th ed?

That's my guess, too, for what it's worth and I can't wait!

D&D Online Books: The Road to Neverwinter

I was pleasantly surprised that I could print it to PDF. I thought that would have been disabled.

Use New monster format for Character builder output

Great idea. I think the Monster Builder format would be perfect, especially for new players. Of course, they've still got a tonne of problems to fix in the Monster Builder before they get to this but I hope it makes it onto the list of things to be done for the Character Builder.

    Replacing Perception with Thievery

On my first reading, I agree with the logic of your choice. I also like the fact that it's easy to incorporate in a game simply by changing a trap's stat block. I would possibly still allow Perception to detect traps (well, certain traps particularly non-magical ones) but have the Perception DC...

Looking to buy my 1st campaign setting - advice?

By way of background, I use the 4th edition version of the Forgotten Realms. I have DMed in the Forgotten Realms since the first grey boxed set. (I also like most of the other campaign settings so please don't read this as me being pro-FR; I'm just trying to answer your question while also...

Does There Need To Be More Player Focus?

The basic problem is that players are lazy (a generalisation, I know). Seriously, most players are too lazy to take up DM duties or to do any basic research. That's fine, I like DMing, but it's fairly rare that any of them will put any effort into the game away from the table. (I actually like...

Looking to buy my 1st campaign setting - advice?

I would actually go with Forgotten Realms or Eberron simply because, as ESL students, it might be good for them to read the novels as part of their English practice.

want to make doubly sure this is ok, vets please read

Ok, if you're running 4E I would definitely recommend a subscription to DDi, even if only for one month. The monster builder and character builder are just so helpful. You might even get some value downloading some of the adventures and stealing encounters particularly as you mentioned you...

want to make doubly sure this is ok, vets please read

Welcome to ENWorld and welcome back to the game! Another option to consider is obsidianportal.com. It's fantastic if you're also developing your own world because you can use the wiki there to provide information to your players but there is also a DM only section for the "secret stuff". Which...

Resources for The Sword Coast, Waterdeep, etc...

There was a free web enhancement for 3.5E's City of Splendours: Waterdeep. It covered a lot of the surrounding lands. I'm not sure how practical a suggestion this is for you but issues 69 to 73 of Dungeon contained the Mere of Dead Men series (the forerunner of the subsequent adventure paths)...

Building a PC based on personal tastes, and not an optimized build!

As a DM, I have no problem with a player wanting to build a character around a concept that is not mechanically optimised. What I do have a problem with is when that player starts whining that his character is so much less effective than others in the campaign.
