    So how is 4th edition?

Exactly. If you're DMing then 4E is the game for you. I also think if your players see the Character Builder they won't be too difficult to persuade to make the change. I love 3.5E but, without good electronic utilities like 4E's Monster Builder, Character Builder and Compendium, it is just...

    Bloodstone Pass for 3.5

Totally agree... both with "faking it" using the victory points mechanic and with the fact that Heroes of Battle was grossly underrated. Another option is to grab Savage Worlds: Explorer's Edition and use their one page mass combat system to resolve the battles. Brilliant.

Your favorite 3.x published campaign setting?

My absolute favourite was an is the Forgotten Realms. That said, I think we're spoilt for choice: - Midnight is simply outstanding but, of course, a different style of game. - Greyhawk, as published in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, was excellent. - Kingdoms of Kalamar has some of the best...

    WOTBS - The Inquisitor (spoilers)

Wow, why didn't I think of that? That's a really elegant solution for dispel magic and antimagic-type effects. I now know how to update my version of the beholder. Thanks, RW!

    Question for our Aussie Mates

Romantic? Mate, you don't know Australians too well. That's probably another Kiwi import. :D

Do you run or play in a Sandbox or Linear game

My players think they're in a sandbox and that is the illusion I always try to maintain. From my side of the screen it is a railroad, more or less, but a railroad with the illusion of choice (plus the occasional real choice).

    2009 in Review

Good Points - I picked up 4E and found I loved it after avoiding it like the plague in 2008. - The Monster Builder proved to be outstanding, as did the Character Builder. Bad Points - Owing to splitting my time between two countries and launching a new company I found myself running only...

So I Want To Run A Western Game...

Savage Worlds seems to be the "go to" system for Western games and pretty much anything else. Why not give it a try? It's very cheap, too, and there's a lot of fan-made stuff available.

    Non-WotC Monster Books?

    Absotively.

Module Layout: what's important to you?

Yes, I should have been clearer. That's on of the reasons I like Ed Bourelle's maps: functionality. I also like my walls to align to the grids (unlike those horrid Maure Castle maps). I don't care what would be more accurate or realistic: just make it easy for me to map.

Module Layout: what's important to you?

My number one rule for a module that I'm going to buy: THE MAP(S) MUST BE OUTSTANDING! I will buy a module with good maps even if the module is terrible. I have several modules in my collection from the 3E era that were rubbish... but the maps are by Ed Bourelle, and I love Ed Bourelle maps. I...

    Experiences with Weapons of Legacy

Hehe. You may have a point there but I hope you agree Epic Level Handbook is the worst. ;) Or a Dragon article.

    Experiences with Weapons of Legacy

No. Surely that honour must belong to the Epic Level Handbook? ;) While I do agree with you and your review, I must admit I have found some of the weapon backstories quite good and will eventually include several in my 4E games... but completely ignoring the mechanics. That said, it was a...

    Solo Adventure Scenario in Dungeon!

Absolutely. Frankly, I would love to see a Choose Your Own Adventure book, in a sense, powered by the 4E ruleset.

So many products - School me

I play 4E in the Forgotten Realms and I simply buy everything Paizo produces. Just buy the lot: it's hard to be disappointed!

    Santa session

RangerWickett, it seems I can't give you XP again so I'll simply post to say that that was utterly brilliant.

    Vulnerabilities: an underutilized mechanism?

Um... something like that. We play semi-sandbox. While there are consequences for bad choices there are also lots of way to escape death. If a player likes his character our goal is to complete the campaign with that character. That's simply what works best for our group but for other groups I...

Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

I really enjoyed those also. Speaker in Dreams, in particular, I have included bits of in about four different campaigns. Sunless Citadel is, for me, the last time that Bruce Cordell wrote a good adventure (since then it feels like it's all weird for weird's sake). Forge of Fury was by Rich...
