Tried and True Practices of Successful Shops

An unpleasant environment for female customers can be even more subtle than that. I don't go to my local comic shop much, because when I walk in, two or three guy employees close in on me to chat, hang around the whole time I'm in the store, and don't let me browse. I'm apparently such a unique...

[Feb 2016] What Are You Reading?

Reading The Forest by Edward Rutherfurd. I'm amazed I'd never read him before. It's very good - historical fiction bordering on nonfiction. I read a middle-grade adventure called Emilie and the Hollow World by Martha Wells that I liked. Steampunkish fun. I'll look out for the sequel. And a...

The Player Wants to do What?!?!?

I'll never forget my players stuffing a dead goat with magical explosive powder and feeding it to a giant crocodile and then setting the magic powder off...

On The Value and Use of Narrative Structures in Play

I'm a terrible improviser. I've been DMing for 30 years and I know my limits. I need at least a rough outline of a place, npc's and some clear motivations/hooks. In your example, I'd need to have a regional map, a castle map, a rough description of the village and some npcs or at least a list of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Adventure idea suggestions

I'm writing an adventure, and suffering badly from writer's block, so I'm here to solicit ideas. My PCs are 7th level, and they are currently in the underdark of my campaign world. Their purpose there is to track down a group of long-lost dwarves who fled into the underdark some 400 years...

D&D 5E (2014) Need help subtly letting the player know they've dropped the ball

As DM you have to decide if harassing them this way would really be fun, too. If my pcs didn't ask such a basic question, I'd just assume they knew it. Don't worry about how, just let the game move forwards. If you feel, on the other hand, that the lesson is an important one, and they will enjoy...

D&D 5E (2014) So which adventures/campaigns have you played so far?

I ran Phandelver set in my own campaign world. At the end of it, I tried to lure them into PotA but failed; we've been homebrewing ever since - I have used a couple Quests of Doom adventures (namely the one set in the winery), and some Dungeon adventures, and Dungeon Crawl Classics #3; they...

What are some quick low level adventures?

You might look at Quests of Doom (there are now 2 volumes of them - and the 1st one is broken into two books, so it is extra-confusing); there are a number of good low-level adventures in them. I especially liked Bad Moon Rising, which is for 4-6th lvls.

    A text question

    1. The target takes 10 hp damage, to a minimum of 1 hp. 2. Roll your attack vs 3 targets. One is slowed. (This seems inadequate to me; is it random? Do they all, or any of them, take damage?)

    Looking for Underdark adventures

Does anyone know of any short, straightforward adventures set in the Underdark? Not in a "dungeon", but something like you'd find in Night Below, etc... I'm looking for side-treks and fun ideas to add to a 5e campaign, but I'm very willing to pull from any source - and no, I'm not running the...

Merric's Erratically Updated Reviews of old D&D adventures

Hmmm... I don't think I've ever played or read this adventure module. I'm going to see if it is in my stash!

    Elemental magic

If you were "recoloring" the whole system of DnD magic to be driven by elementals, how would you do it? I know that potions will be tiny elemental creatures that will fulfill the task the potion would do, such as diving into the wounds of an injured person and cleaning, stitching, repairing...

    Character Suicide

Why would he need to "retcon" the last few sessions? It doesn't seem necessary to me, unless your game is in a place where changing a character would be very disruptive to the plot; retconning would seem to be even worse, to me. Anyway, if you do not want the homebrew class in your campaign...

    EN5ider Hits 50 & TRAILseeker Hits 40!

I'm a patron of En5ider and consider it money WELL spent. Just the couple adventures I've used have really added to my game, and the articles have been quite satisfying. I really do recommend them to everyone.

D&D 5E (2014) What kind of adventures might you buy?

I haven't voted, because I would buy most any adventure if it looks interesting from a plot point of view, and if it doesn't force me to rewrite a huge swath of campaign history. I hate adventures that propose large wars, or introduce new gods or introduce new power factions into the world. I...

    Searching for a module...

It sounds vaguely familiar to me - which leads me to believe it might be a Dungeon Adventure, because I read many of them in detail, even ones (like this) that I would not have conceived running myself.

    Suffering from gaming withdrawal :(

Oh, yeah. When I moved, it took me months to find a group, and it was a very difficult time. I used it to do a lot of campaign building. It isn't a perfect solution, but it satisfies enough to keep going.

What would elemental-driven war magic look like?

Hmmm... that sounds like it would be a good adventure hook. Either the PCs stumble across a group who are attempting to build a machine that can bore such tunnels, or they find a fort on the border, with everyone inside dead, and a mysterious tunnel leading off somewhere. What made it? Why? How...
