D&D General Describe your first character and your last character (and your weirdest)

First: (Human) cleric. Stung to death by giant bees in the dungeon (we were using a set of rules drafted from memory off original white box dnd by my 12 yr old brother). Latest: dwarf fighter. Over 2 years ago. I’m our forever DM. Weirdest: maybe my Gurps scifi cat-shifter rogue-type.

D&D 3.x Ideas & examples for mini-campaign without fighting at all?

I would look at the old Grimtooth’s traps guides. You can still buy them online As ebooks, I think. They’re system agnostic, and mostly deadly as heck, but definitely good puzzlers.

D&D 5E (2014) Buying the Farm - Claiming the Ruin - Occupying the Dungeon

Yup. I rarely know what place they willchoose - sometimes late in the game, sometimes quite early. A hunting lodge, a ruined castle, a weirdly time-stopped house, a caravan, once a flying boat with extradimensional rooms. My players love that stuff.

    D&D 3.x Undead and Sunlight

I have indexed my monsters, spells, npcs, and adventure resources in filemaker, so FINDING the things is not hard, but looking up and reading full descriptions is time consuming!

    D&D 3.x Best/ most balanced Artificer?

What is the most balanced version of th artificer for 3.5?I am willing to look at 3rd party and homebrew as well as official stuff. This would be for a Drakkenheim campaign in 3.5, if it matters.

    D&D 3.x Undead and Sunlight

Thanks, everyone! This gives me a good basis to start working on. I'm going to read up in Libris Mortis (I have a copy I had forgotten all about!). And from there I'll just do what seems to work at the time.

    D&D 3.x Undead and Sunlight

Is there a rule of thumb (or a list) for determining which undead are sunlight phobic? I mean, skeletons and zombies seem fine in the light of day, but what about wights, shadows, and such? Is it as easy as saying incorporeal undead all fear sunlight? But vampires are not incorporeal, so that...

D&D General Younger Players Telling Us how Old School Gamers Played

And the time thing - we NEVER applied it to games that were left in mid-scene. But anytime you ended a session in a “down” state, real time applied.

D&D General Younger Players Telling Us how Old School Gamers Played

Yup. Thinking about people I knew in the mid 80’s, every one that I knew and gamed with then, whom I still know today, either is still playing, or would play given a chance.

D&D General When Was Your Last D&D Gaming Session?

Our putative schedule is weekly Sunday afternoons. For the last couple months we have had 1 and 2 week gaps between every session. Played last week, will miss this upcoming week, then maybe get back on a more even schedule. This group’s core 3 (of 5, usually) have been together for 25 years.

    Long-Term Campaign Building

My definition of a campaign is a series of interconnected adventures involving some or most of the same players and characters, in a mostly contiguous string of events, such that a more-or-less coherent “story” emerges. Also, meta- the PCs do not begin over at starting level. New PCs integrate...

    Long-Term Campaign Building

I usually run games in my own campaign world. My current campaign is about a year and a half old. The PCs are nearing 10th level - this is quick and high level advancement for me, as I generally dislike high level play… but the players asked for it. They are now entering a city of the undead, on...

How Do You Organise Long-haul Campaigns?

I write everything either in my wiki or as a text document. After every adventure I transcribe any necessary info into the wiki. Since I run about 80% of my campaigns in my own world, this means I am always growing my world lore and history. After 30 years, there is a lot of content! PB wiki has...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

That was my first character EVER! Stung to death. It was a saga!

How Do You Organise Long-haul Campaigns?

I started my wiki a long time ago, and yet I still have areas that are bare-bones! Anyway, yes, I would say 90% is player-facing, including my campaign writeups. And no, they rarely read it. But it IS an excellent historical document, and I often use it to refresh my memory on things that...

How Do You Organise Long-haul Campaigns?

I play in person but with my iPad at hand. I have a PBwiki that is about 15 years old at this point. I keep all my notes there, or in an online calendar with a link back to the wiki. I compose most of my adventures in textedit and then copy-paste to the wiki. This makes editing and adding notes...

D&D General What are you prepping for your next D&D session? (+)

I have almost finished the dwarf outpost, but this week my PCs demonstrated a strong desire to reverse direction and leave the underdark… they are 8th level, but a group of 14 dwarves, whom they have the drop on(!) have them intimidated. Ugh!

D&D General What are you prepping for your next D&D session? (+)

Evil deep dwarf city - the PCs hate these dwarves, who are invading their barony, allied with the evil ruler next door. The dwarves have acidic weapons, and worship an evil god of trickery. Their human enemies worship an undead god. I know why the two groups are allied, but have no idea what the...
