    Civility

I'm hoping this new edition brings fans of the game together and mends some of the rifts that exist in the community. For that, I'm willing to let go some of my own "sacred cows", and swallow my pride about some preferences I may not personally agree with. What Wizard's need is some...

    Legends & Lore 16 Jan 2012

Some people are suggesting that D&D Next will basically allow them to "port" older edition characters alongside newer ones, or run 1st Edition modules out-of-the-box. I don't think that's what's intended. When they talk about "taking the best bits from each edition", they don't specifically...

    Monsters for your enjoyment

Jester, I wish I could XP again, because some of these monsters are just so cool. My group are heading into the Feywild this weekend, so I think I'm going to spring some of your Dakons at them. I'm already pitying the Eladrin in our party.

D&D 4E How Are You Preparing to End Your 4E Campaign?

I'm not going to force my 4E campaign to an end, but I am going to be all over the playtest, and I hope to be actively playing 5E when it comes out. Actually, I'm thinking about running one-shots for a while once the new rules are released. I've never really done it before with D&D, but I wish...

    Artifacts!

I love the 4E artifacts. My group's slowly paving their way through the H-E series of adventures, and from H2 onwards I've decided to award 2 artifacts per adventure (these adventures take 3-4 levels each, so they're long). It's worked out really well so far, as they've added some really unique...

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

Got some big love coming atcha from me, 4E. For many, many reasons stated upthread.

Who's Actually Read the DM's Guides

Being pedantic, Tekken Survival mode does feature a "healing surge" between matches.

    Looking for help

I'm unsure if you're starting the campaign at epic, or switching DMs so you take over an existing campaign at epic. If you're starting new, it can be tricky for players to get their heads around so many powers. Not impossible though. If you're switching over, it's not a problem. Whatever, I'd...

    Favorite Items

Wallwalkers. With his undead phase spider companion scuttling along beside him, the wall-walking ranger in our group is one of the most mobile characters I've seen.

Demon Paragon Path and Epic Destiny

Yeah, that sounds better to me.

Demon Paragon Path and Epic Destiny

Nice. You've come up with some really neat stuff here, and it's much cleaner now you've incorporated the suggestions above. My only minor point of criticism is the level 16 power - I could be wrong here, but can't think of any creatures that are immune to necrotic damage. So I'd just strike that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Art direction and 5th edition

Iain McCaig is scarily good. He works in Hollywood now: interestingly enough, he designed the look of Darth Maul. Last I heard he was working as a concept artist on John Carter of Mars. His FF illustrations were a big reason behind my early interest in RPGs.

    Dungeon 197 - Creature Incarnations - Hordelings

Wonderful charts. My slimy hordeling gibbers and has a discoid, lumpen head atop a rubbery, hunched body.

    Benifit of being poor?

Another thought is to give them the practiced study feat for free. Some of the martial practices could be apt: Fortify Beast, Master Artisan, Handle Steed, Word on the Street, Temporary Fix...

    Benifit of being poor?

The peasant class may be the lowest rung of the feudal ladder, but it's by far the most popular. At first glance, I'd give a flat bonus to Streetwise. It's tempting to go for Endurance too, but I don't think the feudal upper class were shielded all that much from the hardships of life. Sure...

My players are in a wee bit of trouble...

Perhaps prepare two or three battlemaps to represent the tower's top floors, and give Reymus some recharge powers that literally punch them through the floor onto a lower level. If your tower's too sturdy for that, have something explode at the start to weaken the foundations. Then stick a load...

    Attacking form on high question

Sounds like a fun encounter. For monsters, as he suggests, you can just roll the whole lot into a power. Very rough example: "THE JUNGLE...IT CAME ALIVE AND TOOK HIM" (Standard Action, Recharge 4+) Melee 1 (one creature) Str vs. AC Hit: X damage (lots!), and make a secondary attack against...

    Attacking form on high question

I do it just as MortalPlague says above, but I usually add a +5 damage bonus to compensate for the risk (and reward the cool). EDIT: Only for PCs though. For enemies, I wouldn't add the +5.

Do you track the date? The phases of the moon? The weather? Holidays?

I think the only time I ever properly tracked the date was back when I first played Enemy Within, which came with a calendar. It was cool to see what holidays were coming up, and worked well as a general log for the campaign. Nowadays I keep it vague. It's usually just "Winter", "Summer", or...

    Heroes of the...

I'd quite like to see tier-specific books, not tied down to any realm. A book focused on the heroic tier, full of setting-neutral themes like Dungeoneer and Bounty Hunter, more heroic tier equipment, and origin stories (as per the Feywild book). A book focused on the paragon tier, with...
