Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

Also, isn't opting out of stretch goals accomplished by just waiting for the retail version of the product anyway? It's rare, in my experience, for the crowdfunded version of a product to be lower in price than the production version. Unless of course you count additional content (from stretch...

Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

I am setting up to launch my first Kickstarter campaign in a few months, having backed more than 70 in the past few years, and I mostly agree with your points. Companies like Monte Cook and Goodman are the exception when it comes to fulfilling with stretch goals. The book/game module we will...

    D&D 5E (2014) How Many PHB's have you bought?

Wise choice. WotC even released such a document themselves, IIRC, plus one updating various other 3.0 books to 3.5.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Without Adding House-Rules/Home-brew

I voted "no," but that's mostly because I've never seen it done and doubt it's possible. For example, any character race listed after the Halfling entry in the PHB is explicitly called out as optional - something I've seen few groups acknowledge. In situations where multiple rule options are...

    D&D 5E (2014) How Many PHB's have you bought?

I've purchased three, but only one was for my personal use. I bought my friend a copy back on 2014 cause he was down on his luck at the time, and I bought the alt cover set to resell for a profit (and succeeded!).

    A Tournament of Pigs Review

I believe the answer to your question is a firm "yes," and I'll take it further: does any other system even have or use a funnel like that?

    A Tournament of Pigs Review

I played through 8 of the events with my group, and it was a blast. We play DCC, and two of my group members - a classmate of my 8yo and her father - had never played a TTRPG before so the board helped bridge the gap for them. Some of the events I deemed inappropriate for a group containing two...

I really can't express my opinion of this film any better than this quote does.

D&D General Maps in adventures: Top-down or Isometric

If a dungeon has multiple levels, I like to have an isometric or at least a diagrammatic reference to help associate them. But honestly, the maps that appear in DCC modules are the best of the best and many combine aspects of both styles.

D&D General Would It Matter To You if D&D Books Were Illustrated by AI Instead of Humans?

Will it bother me? Depends on what they do with the AI. Do they use it to dupe/ape another artist's style, to in effect get DiTerlizzi art without having to pay DiTerlizzi for it? Then yes, it bothers me. Will they use it but still claim that increased costs are due to having more art? Then...

D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

Based on the handling of Spelljammer and Dragonlance, none of them. My interest in having a setting updated to a new edition/ruleset is inversely proportional to my interest in seeing everything distinctive about the setting - the bits that made me love it in the first place - removed or replaced.

D&D 5E (2024) How should multiclassing be implemented for ODnD?

I never used the multiclassing rules in 5e, either in games I ran or as a player. That's partly to reduce dipping and partly because no matter how they try to swing it, I haven't been able to play a 1st level mage/thief since 3.0. I'm indifferent as to how the subject/concept is approached in...

    Gen Con Haul 2022

At Gen Con this year, I both volunteered at the Goodman Games booth and ran two sessions of a DCC module I wrote. I'd have run four sessions and got the comp ticket, but I had my 8yo with me and thought 16 hours of gaming might be a little too much for even them. I grossly underestimated how...

Cut short; sister was mugged. Was one of the players' sister, not mine, but it did bring the session to an early end.
