Spelljammer Spelljammer setting Unlocks on the DMsGuild 8/16!

I've seen a few people griping about the lack of Giant Space Hamster varieties in the new Spelljammer book. So here's a reminder that this book has been kicking around for a couple of years now. Giant Hamsters From Outer Space! (Spelljammer Campaign Expansion) - Dungeon Masters Guild | Dungeon...

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

On the plus side, there's been a book dedicated to all the giant space hamster varieties available on DMSGuild for almost two years. Giant Hamsters From Outer Space! (Spelljammer Campaign Expansion) - Dungeon Masters Guild | Dungeon Masters Guild

Why do you GM for strangers online or at conventions? What do you get out of it?

I ran games at Gen Con for the first time this year. I did it because a) I put in to run a module I was working on, never expecting they'd actually let/want me to actually run it, but they did, and b) I wanted playtest feedback from a group completely unknown to me, unlike the game I run at my...

    Games That Really "Wowed" You?

No no no no no. While Goodman Games published stuff as "Dungeon Crawl Classics" since 3e or 3.5, the DCC RPG as an independent system arrived in 2012. What I meant was, I've been playing since 1993, and discovering the DCC RPG a few years ago blew my mind. In fact, I'd spent a couple years...

D&D 5E (2014) Has D&D spoiled you on other RPGs?

I think it's fair to say that 5e spoiled me on D&D. I was so excited by the playtest material, and so little of what I actually liked made it into the published version of the game. Luckily I happened across a copy of the Dungeon Crawl Classics core rulebook and was reborn.

    Games That Really "Wowed" You?

DCC was the first game I ever read/played (since 1993!) that literally made my eyes pop. After over 25 years of gaming, I'd found my home.

    D&D 5E (2014) Alignment

I have yet to find a better alignment description and application than 3.x had. And in my games your actions determine your alignment, not the other way around, and those decisions and resulting alignments have real consequences So while you may feel it's unfair that your kitten-torturing...

D&D 5E (2014) Your PCs have Character Classes/Levels, and no one else does!

Do I use the character class rules to make NPCs? Yes. Do I refer to those NPCs as Fighters, Clerics, etc.? No. I voted No. That being said, one thing I really enjoy is thinking of things from a commoner's perspective; average folks don't know the fine details of anyone's profession any more...

D&D 5E (2014) "I would play in a 5e game with no caster classes at all" (a poll)

I ran a successful 5e campaign on that premise. No PC casters at all, though some enemies could use magic. The campaign/game lasted about a year and a half, meeting weekly, and fell apart when one player (out of the 3 I had) moved out of state. I still occasionally hear from the players about...

Spelljammer Spelljammer Shows Up In The Wild - Check Out The Tables of Contents

That's all true. And one of the major things that put me off Planescape back in the day was the shocking and overwhelming arrogance of its in-world presentation. The setting seemed unnecessary enough before busting in on the older settings and their lore like a locker room bully. I thought...

RPG Evolution - True Tales from Stranger Things: Kids on Bikes

Not just a Kid on a Bike, but a Midwest Kid on a Bike. North Central Indiana, a city of roughly 60,000. And I lived downtown. Now I live in a condo complex, somewhere I moved specifically so that my now-8yo would have neighbor kids close enough to walk/bike to so they can have a similar experience.

Why Dragonlance's Margaret Weis Left TSR: A Slaying the Dragon Excerpt

Given the option between levying tribute to Jeff Bezos (ordering through Amazon) and waiting a few days for my local bookstore to get the book for me, I chose the latter. It was a rough wait, but the good news is I have some great reading just in time for the weekend!

How Often Do You Lose Interest in Pre-Orders/KS By the Time They Arrive?

I've literally backed Kickstarters and lost interest in the entire game system they were designed for before the product was delivered. So yes, I feel your pain.

D&D 5E (2014) "When I Run D&D 5E, the Arc of the PCs' Adventures is 'Zero to Hero'." (a poll)

I voted true, because while I rarely play 5e these days, I always start campaigns at level 1. Like others, I didn't the formative levels to be most interesting when characters are at their most vulnerable. I do feel that 5e's biggest shortcoming is having subclasses not kick in for a level or...
