    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

Following the monster creation rules RAW... you create monsters in 5 mins?

WotC 5E Designer Mike Mearls Talks About The OGL Crisis

So they were negotiating and getting feedback? Honestly I'm not getting your point. They apparently did want one (an OGL) or they wouldn't have sent out the documents and asked for feedback. So now you know what they expected to get?? Better than people working there at the time... uhm, ok.

WotC 5E Designer Mike Mearls Talks About The OGL Crisis

Of course WotC could have just went for it as opposed to soliciting feedback and having it leaked... Edit: I think this is one of his points... if they didn't want feedback, why even send it out at all ahead of time and risk having it leaked?

WotC 5E Designer Mike Mearls Talks About The OGL Crisis

No... there's no way actual insiders could have more info as well as a more holistic view of what happened with the OGL than our pieced together internet tidbits from unknown sources... no way I Say.

D&D General Why Mike Mearls left D&D, an interview by Ben Riggs.

No one said it was... I'm sure seeing things like this happen and realizing there could be other ways in10 years of utilizing the 5e rules that they hadn't conceived of had them looking for a comprehensive solution as opposed to being behind the curve everytime something new popped up. That...

D&D General Why Mike Mearls left D&D, an interview by Ben Riggs.

I think WotC was more concerned with things like the example of Solasta, a videogame that took and usd the 5e rules for free... sold 596k units and made gross revenue in the range of 13.9m. I think it's silly to think WotC was primarily concerned with smaller rpg publishers, 3pp or even...

WotC 5E Designer Mike Mearls Talks About The OGL Crisis

What fact checking needed to be done about this? It's not a D&D videogame... it's a game that uses 5e mechanics. For an example of an actual D&D game see... Baldur's Gate.

    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

Because they are more niche products that are more likely to be discovered, bought and used by hard-core DM's of 5e( the type that would actually try to use monster creation rules) as opposed to the muuch wider and much more casual, general audience of D&D... I mean even in this thread there...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why No Monster Creation Rules in D&D 2024?

My suspicion is the dnd beyond numbers showed them that the number of people who both homebrewed and actually used the monster creation rules RAW was miniscule enough that for them it would have been a waste of effort and space to include them.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

There's something uncanny valley-ish about it... but I feel like that's what the Fey would be like. Colorful, vibrant even beautiful in an extreme way that's also slightly off putting or slightly wrong-ish to mortals.

The DM should say "Yes, it's appropriate to try and hide now. How are you doing it" The PC should then relay how they hide in the fiction, keeping in mind the mechanical requirements for them to be successful.

I don't see the contradiction... The DM determines because the DM has an overall picture of everything happening... (including things the PC may not be aware of)... whether the Hide action can be attempted. It then gives you the conditions for success or failure when using the Hide action...

What are the rules issues in the 5.5 books... im playing with them right now and haven't hit any major issues so curious about this assertion in case im missing something? Personally I feel like mechanics wise this will probably be one of their easier years... Mostly adventures and outside of...

Because Beyond is the tool not the game... and the products impact the content of my game... Beyond impacts how my group inte r acts with said content.

Ok... so we dont have actual facts as to whether D&D is doing horrible or great... that being the case i don't think its looking for facts that feels like a negative light... its the interpretation of said facts.

Again it's a recreation/luxury item. You don't need any of it (the basic rules are free) so having more, at least for me, affects my players just as much as Beyond since the more product produced the more likely I'll find something I want among it.

What actual facts though... there's alot of data interpretation with little to no context provided in the analysis... i.e. speculation.

This argument never makes sense to me... its a luxury/recreation product, nothing about it is needed. I buy it because I want and enjoy the products WotC puts out... I enjoy the ease of use and convenience when sharing all my digital books with my gaming group master tier DnD Beyond sub...

No... but we are comparing a time period where a complete game was available (2014) to one where a corebook is missing (2024)... The free rules are just as good as an srd so not sure that would be a big deal.
