Are you serious... Daggerheart is pretty upfront about the numerous wheels (mainly PbtA but also many others) it is reinventing. This post comes off like you trying to subtly insult those with different tastes than your own while simultaneously engaging in the same unwarranted hype and praise...

Yeah, it's been what... Just over 2 weeks since Daggerhearts full release... so 3 weeks of good sales and its suddenly a D&D killer... I really like the game but this all seems a little premature by at least a year or two, maybe even 10. Im also not so sure Daggerheart is actually outselling...

Maybe not... but deadly sure ain't bouncing back, healing up and getting back in the fight in an instant... if anything that's pulpy heroic action. It would have felt more deadly if they had passed out and possibly got the scar. Was it tense... sure, but the fiction didn't feel deadly at all...

Eh, if you say so... I think a Blaze of Glory would have driven home the deadlines of the world better than what actually took place.

I dont think Daggerheart is an inherently "deadly" system... though with the blaze of glory option it could be... the problem is (at least in advertising this campaign as deadly) CR players (like most) dont really want it to be deadly.

Because it was promoted by CR (Matt) as being a more deadly game...

I still feel like this is a choice. Nothing about rolling initiative forces you to be locked into combat. I think combat is fun for most players in D&D and Pathfinder and so once it's been initiated they rarely choose to end or leave it prematurely.

I ran a Shadowdark one shot with my group and I was surprised at how much I liked always on initiative outside of combat. It helped me to better keep my less assertive players involved in what was happening at the moment since it eliminated the ability to just kind of fade into the background...

So it's heroic fantasy and yet the very title of the article claims it's a grimdark campaign. Not to mention another poster earlier who in reply to one of my posts claimed Daggerheart wasn't heroic fantasy. But if you're saying it's heroic fantasy with different coats of paint... well cool I...

I didn't claim anyone was mad at D&D for anything... just finding it odd that D&D (at least on the surface) and those who like to homebrew it are often on these very boards criticized for trying to use D&D for multiple genres and styles of fantasy when Daggerheart is doing exactly the same thing...

Yes, so it's modifications to the base Daggerheart rules for a specific campaign setting... exactly the same thing done with 5e amidst cries of... there are better games for that genre/tone/style/etc. out of the box.

Well to be fair each edition of D&D is almost a brand new game... and my whole point is that we have seen what is possible mostly through 3pp but it's discounted or disparaged...while Daggerheart as you state has little in the way of actual play experience but is apparently just as perfect for...

So are we still speaking in the contex5 of narrating results? If so why would my players being docile or not affect it... does Daggerheart's success range magically make players docile? As DM in D&D I'm creating or choosing the setting I'm running in so why would the setting work against me? I...

But isnt this just description...I dont see how they grant me more control over tone. As DM in D&D I have total control over the tone... here I'm actually more at the mercy of the dice.
