One of my players wants to play a kid wizard like Harry Potter. Should i allow it?

As long as the kid is a teenager I think it is OK. In a fantasy setting a 14yr old has probably helped raise 2-3 kids, minds the farm while mum and dad are away, runs the market stall and might well be betrothed to that nice miller's boy. I would give the kid the death curse. They were...

What to do and where to start after a TOTAL PARTY KILL?

I do much the same thing as Rabbitbait, in dangerous campaigns I try to have the PCs become a part of an adventurer's guild. They report in each time they come back to town. Any new characters are assumed to have heard the stories up to the last time the PCs came to town. In OPs situation, I...

    Booting a player Question

I have to disagree, @shidaku, don't risk the thigh high. There is a chance the victim will say "thankyou mistress may I have another?" and then it just gets weird for everybody involved. Best to avoid that possibility. Trust me, I am Australian and we invented booting, it is a national...

    Good dwarven ruined city recommendation?

If you search google images for the Mines of Moria you will come across some large scale maps. The old Nentir Vale setting had Hammerfast, a city populated by both the living and the dead. That could be interesting. The PCs travel into a huge complex like Moria, upon reaching the center they...

How do you make a Barbarian interesting? :)

I chose Beserker, I liked the charm and fear resistance at level 6. He was a ronin style guy, but still had honour, if he ran in fear or attacked his friends we would commit suicide. I never got to level 10, but I liked the "thousand yard stare" feel to the intimidating presence and at high...

How do you make a Barbarian interesting? :)

What really sold it for me was the level 7 advantage on initiative and "cannot be surprised" It adds a cool "Lone Wolf and Cub" aspect to it, no ninja is going to get the best of him. I also added in Alertness feat.

Here's the Abyssal Sibriex From Mordenkainen's Tome

Don't forget the opportunity to torment and disturb your players with Command: Kiss and Command: Drink.

How do you make a Barbarian interesting? :)

I have used a few interesting barbarians in the past: - A Hawaian/Fijian themed guy. He was pretty much Maui from the Moana, but years before the movie came out. He did not shapeshift, but had moving tattoos and a similar personality. His "rage" was taking on the totemic powers of his tattoos...

Booting a Player (and setting a good example?)

I am a non-confrontational person, so this is what I feel is right, but I think it is at best half true. The fact is that the OP made a very good point. He has one afternoon while the wife is looking after the kids to play with friends. Why should he have to spend it with somebody he does not...

Wand of Lightning Bolt - how good is it really?

You are a lot less evil that me...uselessly expended indeed humphh. I think some third degree burns are in order at the very least ;) Of course if I was feeling 'nice' I'd give them clues obscure enough that they don't pick them up, but obvious enough that they blame themselves for their own...

What kaiju was the rust monster based off of?

Ah well done @ccs ! I was just thinking to myself "gee I hope not finding this little plastic toy does not become an itch in my brain that leads me to spend way too long googling it". Then I saw your post, you saved me! <edit> It is a weird world we live in, that people presumably on the other...

    Non-urgent Adventures and Campaigns?

This is a topic close to my heart, as most of the campaigns I run are slow paced and I can never seem to run prepublished stuff as it all seems so rushed to me. I find that PCs going from level 1 to 10 in a couple of months bugs me a bit. Likewise the world building of a campaign is really...

What kaiju was the rust monster based off of?

I had the toy he is talking about, it looks exactly like the rust monster in the sketch. It was blue-grey and was a in box with a bunch of far more dinosaur looking creatures. I remember because I spent ages trying to find what type of dinosaur it was and was annoyed that they put a 'fake' one...

Wand of Lightning Bolt - how good is it really?

Oh I just remembered a cool idea I used in another game (Paranoia hehe). Give the PCs TWO wands of lightening bolt. No matter where they aim either of them, the bolt always travels directly to the other lightening rod. If the other rod is not on a person (need not be held, but that is far...

Wand of Lightning Bolt - how good is it really?

I'm not a huge fan of it in games at that level. A caster has invested a great deal in being able to do 2-3 lightning bolts in a day. It seems wrong that somebody with a stick can do it 3-6 times. Lightning bolt and fireball are pretty defining characteristics of a caster and a cool achievement...

D&D 5E (2014) Need backstory help with an Orc OotA Paladin in service to a Fey Lord

Can't he just have been brought up in the Bear Kingdom? It does not say that orcs don't live there. Maybe his village is made up of orcs, half-orcs and humans. It sounds like the orcs would rather like the Bear King and be happy with him as a ruler. They like hunting and doing their own thing...

    D&D 5E (2014) UA: Order Domain Cleric.

I love this new domain personally. I really wanted an order/civilization/state-religion domain for my campaign. The fact that it seems to be about control is perfect for me. Something tied to the "divine right of kings" works very well with many games and concepts. One thing that seems very...

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

FYI I was running a similar campaign and I found a really neat way to work resurrections etc into the plots. All clerics are banned from casting resurrection except by express permission of the pope-figure. As such, the church holds massive sway over the lives of nobles as if they bring you back...

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

If you worry about Polymorph being embarrassing, consider yourself lucky, my players use Command "Masterbate" with reckless abandon. As for the main topic, Darkness for sure. I simply don't DM for builds based around Darkness and Devil's Sight. It makes every combat almost exactly the same...
