    Recruiting - World Building game

I felt like we were a little short; the game can support people dropping in and out a bit but it needs a solid 5 or so players so I'm hoping tostart with more. In fairness to everybody playing, and to try to get off on the right foot, what I'd like to do is post another recruitment thread or...

Breathing New Life into your Monsters

Phril, those are great. Really great. Could you be tempted towards the Great Hundred?

    Coolest part of your homebrew?

You know what would really hit the spot? Some fey observer talking about the sharks, and how they're trailing ships or otherwise up to no good. From that perspective they'd sound more mythical, and rather than "Human barbarian + wereshark template" it would be "strange shark-men, what cursed...

    More Situation, less Setting

That's right, and you'd be more than welcome in the project.

    Coolest part of your homebrew?

I need these for the Great Hundred. In a casual, long-term kind of way.

    Groundhog Day

If not in-game I would suggest saying out of game "Hey, I have a cool idea for a Call of Cthulhu game in a small modern setting with some time travel. Are you guys down with that?"

    Coolest part of your homebrew?

Oh, come on. Such a cop out. I can imagine lots of lame campaigns that aren't pseudo-euopean. "In this setting, there are two rooms: the room with the Texan Double Cheeseburger and the room with the rusty iron statue of Genghis Khan. You are playing south african vegetarians. Look at the...

    Groundhog Day

Was it a game about dungeons and /or dragons? I think it would work in the context of a "the world will end before dinnertime" Call of Cthulhu thing, but not as a long arc, and certainly not in D&D.

Running games with unintended systems. . .

Not right now, but I'll keep it in mind. When I do such a game I'm sure I want to do a LOT of consulting with boards first. I imagine some kind of Sci Fi's Greatest Hits with elements of Aliens, Cowboy Bebop, and 2001 as well. For now I've got to focus on the Great Hundred, TRAPs, and my own...

    Coolest part of your homebrew?

Well, here's my favorites right now: A culture expressed through a rite of passage, the land through the eyes of a potential invader, and some cursed mutineers looking for a lost city. If you really want to yoink something cool or contribute something yoinkable in a big way... well, that's what...

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Eberron's Rakshasas. Those are wicked.

Running games with unintended systems. . .

I wanted to do a Star Wars remix in the style of the Matrix, but I didn't know a good system for it.

This sounds like how Yog Sothoth would get its cosmic jollies

Oh yes. Savage Worlds is awesome, but I likes my d20s. This is definitely designed with Savage Worlds in the back of my head (along with Mortal Coil, Primetime Adventures, Universalis, Castles & Crusades, Savage Donjon Squad, and True20).

Here's a bit more. Travis and Andy sit down on the commuter train Travis: We’re still going to have hit points. Andy: I figured so. I assume we’re not rolling at each level? Travis: I think a simple formula would serve us better. I’m thinking (5+CON) * Level. Andy: Not a ton of hit...

Yeah, one of my players asked me to design a game with 6 stats, Level, and hit points... and something like feats. This is sort of my thought process for that system modeled through fictional players (weird I know but it works for me). (PS I am still looking at the TRAP document)

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

I allowed Prestige classes just as the core rules say - usually that meant just 1 level of a prestige class. Some others are trying using prestige classes as base classes. I think there are some lingering issues but at the scale you're working at you can get away with it. Somebody said E6 was...

The Whitehall Club writes [(3⅞/0º)^½]ə I made up some gamers for a game I wrote a while ago, and as I was trying to come up with my ultralite 20 in steps from d20 I kept coming back to the idea of them talking it out. So here's Travis and Andy from the Whitehall gaming club sitting down to...

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

Oh, I completely know the feeling - I'm just saying (from experience) that you can spend a lot of valuable prep time worrying about stuff that might happen. For the fighter, there's a lot of options. Again, it depends on what you want to allow. There's a lot of "get 3 spell-like abilities...
